TGIF, everyone.

Taken yesterday and just now processed, here is one of the Nasturtiums that flourish near our gate and mailbox, despite a lack of attention...

I hope all of you are doing well and that you have a safe and enjoyable weekend..

Nasturtiums will thrive if they have adequate water and sunlight.
I've found that seeds will still germinate several years after they'd been buried if the soil is turned, bringing the seeds closer to the surface.
The Red in the Yellow, the clarity and sharpness, the blurred red in back, the lines and angles created by the grass, which looks like kikuyu. All give this image impact and depth.

Dave, agree with Peter, excellent impact and composition!

Hi Peter.

I hesitate to post my bland photos but our condo building had visitors from Canada the other day.

They checked out the maternity ward  (nesting area) and I haven't seen them since.
Our building is between our lake and a pond at Cabela's, a sporting goods store near the interstate.

Canada geese?
What's the bird in the foreground of the first pic?

RE: Friday May 3, 2024 - Dave - 05-03-2024

Thank you, MFI. I believe you are right about the grass being kikuyu. It is threatening to take over the entire front yard. Fortunately it is relatively easy to pull out unless the ground is dry and hard-packed; unfortunately there is A LOT of it.

I believe the small bird in Rich's first photo is the American Robin.

Thank you Rich.

IMO the Canada Goose is a very handsome bird, and judging by it's range (it can be found all over North America, from Mexico to northern Canada, year-round in about 1/3 of the continent.

I can tell horror stories about kikuyu, if you want a long diatribe..

I've hated the stuff since I was knee high to a grasshopper.

Sure it is useful as a lawn in drier climates and with saline soil, for those who don't want too much work trying to get it to spread.
It is one of the few that can be edged with glyphosate and people do use it.
However, there are ample other grasses less invasive that will also suit this purpose well and you won't need the glyphosate to contain them.
