Wednesday 17 April 2024 - Dave - 04-17-2024

Happy Hump Day (for most of us).

At least one of my daily walks take me past the former home of late friend Ron, and I am saddened at how the current owner and/or tenants have ignored Ron's once immaculate flora. The yard (not a lawn but an area of attractive decorative stones) is overgrown with weeds, plants along the garage and side walls have fared no better. And his roses get not even basic care - I doubt they have been fertilized in more than a year, they are seldom watered, don't get the recommended early spring pruning that prevents diseased plants and promotes more blossoms.

A dwindling few are still trying to survive despite being surrounded by weeds up to 7 feet tall.

What a shame; it's analogous to a formerly attractive neighborhood rapidly becoming a slum.

Here is one rose (taken yesterday) that is trying...

For Rich:

Here is a shot of the full McMansion from a few weeks ago...

When the homes were built (around 1969) in the neighborhood they were single story with a living space of 1200 to 1400 square feet. I estimate this monster at 3 to 4 times that.

Good morning, Dave.  Nice spotlight on the bud accenting its vibrant colors about to emerge.
I am sure you will follow its progression and give us an update in a few days.
Tomorrow is my monthly photo club meeting. The special assignment for this month is BARNS.
I was able to pull a few from my archives.  I am still working on tweaking the second, but here is the one that I like the most, because I don't think anyone will have anything like it.

Title: "This little piggy stayed home"

Dave, saddened by you rose photo. You can see it had no care. What a shame!

Thanks for showing the mansion. You right, it does not fit in.

Here is a shot of the gathering area for immigrants coming into Ellis Island, NYC

Lorell, brought me a chuckle! Awesome photo and color....great title! I give it a 15!

RE: Wednesday 17 April 2024 - Dave - 04-17-2024

That is a terrific photo, Lorell - top marks in all aspects.

Definitely unique, solid composition, great shapes and lines and angles, rich and realistic colors, eye contact with the viewer, superb values. All these aspects combine to make this image one of your very best ever.

Rich, thank you for sharing photos you have taken over the years across the country. Today's is a worthy subject and a fine capture.

Lorell,
Your Piggy put a smile on my face. Well done.
Woke up to winter again. Well so be it.
Hi Rich,
Hi Dave,

RE: Wednesday 17 April 2024 - Luv2shoot - 04-17-2024

I am so glad that I made you all smile. Hopefully will get similiar reactions to Morris evening . Now you all made me smile.

Grant, hi buddy. Sorry to hear about the cold front front passing through. Is it going to ruin some of the spring blossoms in your area? Everything is blooming around here now.

Rich, wow, the building looks in pristine condition. All clean and shiny. I wish the walls could talk.

Dave, interesting shot of that rose bud.....I like how the color pops out of a dark background. Such a shame about Ron's garden, but not everyone is a garden person....
Oh, I see you did shoot the whole house....will be interesting to see the finished house, repaired.
Lorell, I have to laugh at the piggy photo....would be a great portrait cropped close to the pig. He looks very interested in you!
Rich, that does look like a pristine area....nice angle. Wonder if it was this nice looking when the immigrants came? Would have been a nice welcome for them. Yes, as Lorell said, if walls could talk.....
Hi Grant!

Thank you, Natalie.

Natalie and all, Here is a link to photos of Ellis Island. Scroll down a bit and you will see a photo of the same view I took back in the day full of people. I read or heard somewhere that they had to be healthy to get processed in. If not they were sent away, I don't know where.
