Good Day All. A beautiful blue sky, light wind day in South Dakota!
The little house on the prairie, not the real one in DeSmet, SD from the book. Just saw this along the road and had to photograph it.

Nice one, Rich. It sure captures the concept of "prairie". And the falling-down building in the background adds a lot to the appeal of the image - wise decision to include it.

Something a bit different from me. My college years were from 1967 tho 1971, but I never got into the drug scene of those years - saw too many friends and frat brothers get messed up by that, as well as my own younger brother. Instead of drugs, my mood-altering substance of choice was beer, a habit I've enjoyed (no doubt too much) ever since then.

Very nice, RIch. I love the sky! I really enjoy seeing the old abandoned buildings....sad, but time moves on. I always wonder why they were abandoned and not fixed up with the changing times.
Dave, I can feel the cold.....make mine Coors Light!! I like the rich browns in this image.

Thanks Natalie! The owners passed on and no buyers probably!

Dave, I really like this! The backlighting is awesome and the touch of highlights on the front brings it to a higher level. Perhaps Coors would like to buy it for an ad!

On November 11, 1933, a very strong dust storm stripped topsoil from desiccated South Dakota farmlands in one of a series of severe dust storms that year. Beginning on May 9, 1934, a strong, two-day dust storm removed massive amounts of Great Plains topsoil in one of the worst such storms of the Dust Bowl.[21] The dust clouds blew all the way to Chicago, where they deposited 12 million pounds (5,400 tonnes) of dust.[22] Two days later, the same storm reached cities to the east, such as Cleveland, Buffalo, Boston, New York City, and Washington, D.C.[23] Monuments like the Statue of Liberty and the United States Capitol were blotted out. Dust worked its way into even the most sealed homes, leaving a coating on food, skin, and furniture.[24] That winter (1934–35), red snow fell on New England.

From: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dust_Bowl

The Dust Bowl has been the subject of many cultural works, including John Steinbeck's 1939 novel The Grapes of Wrath, the folk music of Woody Guthrie, and Dorothea Lange's photographs depicting the conditions of migrants, particularly Migrant Mother, taken in 1936.

Methinks the facts speak not only of beer containing a drug but that this drug has harmed far more than the all other drugs did together. Wink Sorry about going all psychiatrist but it is true.

Sorry, no new photographs at present.

Thank you for your kind words about the stubby bottle of Coors, Natalie.

And my thanks to you too, Rich. I'd be happy to sell Coors some rights to the photo, but I haven't a clue how to go about doing so.

MFI, we can always count on you for interesting info on a variety of subjects. Thank you!

Yes, consumption of alcohol is harmful in a whole lot of ways: chronic health problems and DUI being just two. But alcohol isn't illegal. Using hard drugs carries more severe consequences: life-long addiction, harsh legal consequences, the very real threat of death from tainted product or accidental overdose, and a dangerous entanglement with a gang sub-culture rife with extreme violence that regularly escalates to murder.

I'll stick with beer.

This was an interesting thread with two VERY good photographs.

Rich, This is an excellent composition and like Dave said, the second dilapidated house was a wise addition to the story. It almost is like a warning of what lies ahead for the house on the left. Great work, Rich.

Dave, THIS IS EXCELLENT. The only thing that might made it better is if the lip of the bottle with highlights was not cropped out. I think you should continue experimenting with other items in your house because this one is sure a winner.

"I'll stick with beer. "

In Moderation, of course. Wink
