Thursday, Feb 29, 2024 - Don - 02-29-2024 Good morning all. A little cooler here this morning than yesterday but still not bad. A few more from the Panama Canal trip. Photo 3 is not the best, but I found it interesting. Apparently some type of insect eggs, but very small and I didn't have the best lens for a close up shot. RE: Thursday, Feb 29, 2024 - Dave - 02-29-2024 Quite the variety of lines and shapes, Don. I love the form of the bridge, the radial symmetry of the (fern maybe? is neat, and the precision in the spacing of the insect eggs is surprising - I can't imagine why that benefits the species. But evolution doesn't waste energy on things (structure, biochemistry, behavior, etc.) that doesn't confer a benefit. I am very pleased to have my lens back, and after a few days I'm relearning how to use my D7500. Here's one taken yesterday morning; I didn't want to produce yet another image of a bright flower against a dark background, but I had no choice. This Oxalis (considered an invasive weed in much of the world) was growing in front of a black tarp hung over a chain-link fence just outside of a suburban construction project. Regrettably, they are building one of those blasted McMansions - small lot, with the massive two-story taking up nearly the entire square footage. Anyway, here's the photo... RE: Thursday, Feb 29, 2024 - Dreamin - 02-29-2024 Don, The leading line in the bridge photo takes you right in. B&W choice was a good one for this subject. The fern against the great green background has a lot of interest.....but those eggs....amazing capture! Mother Nature is so interesting....how in the world that bug created those standing eggs, and why? Great color in the leaf shot.... Hi Dave. I really like that yellow blossom against the black, intentional or not. But, like Rich, I like to place my flowers facing into the frame, instead of looking out. But it's your choice, and your framing is well done, as usual. RE: Thursday, Feb 29, 2024 - Man From Ironbark - 02-29-2024 Possibly lacewing eggs. RE: Thursday, Feb 29, 2024 - Dave - 03-01-2024 Thanks Natalie. I appreciate the observation (that you also ascribed to Rich) about the value of having one's COI pointing inward, not outward. Good advice. With this image I could easily fix that by selecting the main flower and flipping it horizontally - the even-colored and flat background would make a 30 second fix. |
