Thursday, February 15, 2024 - Luv2shoot - 02-15-2024 Wow, it's Thursday already. We am having fun down here on AMI. Enjoying our company and looking forward to today's activity. My SIL and I are going to a Painting class where you use a real DEAD fish for contours to create a painting. I did this years ago and probably showed you a photo of the fish that I created. So hopefully this one will come out as well as the last and I can hang it up in my PHOTO/SEWING ROOM when we return home. My walls in that room are a dark burgundy. I am having a bit of a problem determining the color scheme for my fish to go along with BURGUNDY. Here is another photo that I submitted for tonight's photo club meeting that I will be missing. It is also for the MONOTONE category. Another silhouette shot looking up into the sun. By the way, this is practically SOOTC with the exception of adding a little bit of glow. The pelican at the top was PURE LUCK, as was the sunburst under its week. As they say, it is better to be lucky than good! RE: Thursday, February 15, 2024 - Rich - 02-15-2024 WoW Lorell! On a scale of 1 to 10 I give it an 11! Awesome expose shooting in to the sun and the composition is tops! I don't knw if you go by N4C rules for judging but if you don't get a placing the judges will need to go back to judging school! Glad you are having an awesome time! We are getting the leftover moisture from Daves rainy week only in the form of snow! Here is a presentation of a visit to a SD winery years ago. RE: Thursday, February 15, 2024 - Man From Ironbark - 02-15-2024 I'd probably give it a 12 for the luck component. Very nice image.
RE: Thursday, February 15, 2024 - Luv2shoot - 02-15-2024 Well, thank you gentlemen. I really appreciate that. I guess I do not need to hear my club’s reviews with comments like that from the two of you. Rich, those three would make an excellent trio foe a wall hanging. I really see that in a dining room over a cherry wood linen chest underneath of it, with several bottles of wine on a row on top, maybe in some sort of multiple bottle wine holder. Wasn’t there a special name given to that bureau that held the linens? And I do not mean a china cabinet. Lorell PS. At tonight’s meeting one of the members is giving a presentation regarding the four things that judges look for in a good image. I understand he uses the symbol of a stool where all four legs of the stool must be sound to hold up the stool. I think two of the legs is composition, impact, technique. I am tickled pink because he asked me to send him my photos of the tractor that I shared with you a few weeks ago, the original, the first artistic B&W transformation and then the cropped sepia revision, that Peter said he liked that most. In a way, I am glad that I won’t be there to hear him tell about it so he can freely talk about what was wrong with the first two versions and why he liked the final version the most. By the way, The final version was based upon his critique and suggestions at the last club meeting. RE: Thursday, February 15, 2024 - Man From Ironbark - 02-15-2024 We call it the linen closet. RE: Thursday, February 15, 2024 - Dave - 02-16-2024 Lorell, exceptionally fine image, even by the high standards we've come to expect from you. Rich, your three photos get top marks by any judging standards. Composition, exposure, value, color - you nailed all aspects. And that's a very nice presentation of the 3 images. Hi MFI. I hope all is well with you. No new photos from me. I've been busy helping a friend. She just returned from a few days at Yosemite and showed me some photos she was justifiably proud of. Several were of the famous Firefall. On one or two days a year things align just so for the setting sun to light up a waterfall descending from a high cliff (weather permitting, of course). The Window of opportunity for getting the best photos is very short and my friend was there a few minutes too early. I commiserated with her about the unlucky timing, then mentioned that I could probably use Photoshop to make her Firefall photos look as if she had been there at the ideal time to show the dramatic effect. I did an initial round of adjustments and she liked the result enough to say she wants to get it printed then framed and matted. So I recommended two local businesses - one for printing and one for framing. RE: Thursday, February 15, 2024 - Dreamin - 02-16-2024 Lorell, that is one heck of a shot! You are so lucky those birds are used to tourists, they actually pose for you.....around here they would fly off before I could get close enough to take a shot! Rich, that is the type of shot one could sell a winery, perfect specimens to advertise their crops/wines!! Lorell, did you mean a sideboard, chiffonier, credenza? Hi Peter, Dave! Dave, so nice of you to use your skills for a friend. She will treasure that shot for sure!! RE: Thursday, February 15, 2024 - Dave - 02-16-2024 Hi Natalie. And thanks for you kind words. I spoke with her this morning and she loved the image I came up with. Now we gotta determine what size of a print she wants. The photo isn't a standard size so I see two options: 1) cropping to fit a standard sized frame; or 2) having my framer do a custom mat and frame. Another possible name for what Lorell was asking about might be "armoire", but I don't think it is usually used to store linens. RE: Thursday, February 15, 2024 - Rich - 02-16-2024 Thanks Lorell! That would be a neat location! I am bettng the critiques won't be to harsh. Thank you for the kind words Dave! Fun to help a friend save an image. Thanks Natalie! RE: Thursday, February 15, 2024 - Adamphotoman - 02-16-2024 Lorell, I cannot add anything that hasn't already been said. Hi Natalie We missed you.... We still have winter. |
