Well, only one more week till Halloween, and then that is over.
I wish I could say that I enjoy this time of the year when one holiday follows the other. But I am afraid I look at it as "then that's over" and I can relax the day after the holiday occurs.  Some people sure go all out for Halloween, don't they? I do have a skeleton holding on to a small lamppost alongside our driveway, but nothing more than that.

Here is the photo I promised you yesterday.  I took it using my ND filters.  I sort of like the blurred water effect, especially since there are some areas that are still in focus in the water and show the reflection of the colors in the leaves. I wish I would have had the bright orange leaves in focus though.  It looks like I didn't have anything in focus.  But I recall trying to focus on the green leaves on the left.  OH well, I need a lot more practice.  It was pretty cold out there and there was limited things to take photos of.  The shoreline is not safe and I didn't want to fall in.  The photos that I took from a bridge did not turn out well.  I know that I should go back, but am too lazy. Actually, I am going to go outside and trim a couple of shrubs before the temps drop dramatically this weekend.  Yesterday I emptied the rain barrel and stored that, the few shrubs I off the patio should be the last thing I have to do to close up the back yard.

Hey, I am getting a new lens.   I am so excited.  I finally am buying myself a lens that I have wanted for years, a lens Baby Velvet 56.  I have been drooling over the effects of this lens for so long and decided to finally get it after it went on sale at Adorama for 20% off.  At that point, I asked myself, "What are you waiting for?"  Now I do not have to soften the edges of my images in Post.  The lens will do that naturally for me.  And if I up the aperture, the blur will disappear.  The lens is a 56mm, but on my camera it is equivalent to a 112 mm, making it a macro.  Yes!  I love close-ups and macros.  So, hopefully, I shall be able to show you some of the first images that I take with the new lens.  Just counting the days now.

Have a great day all,
LORELL

I wish I could afford new lenses.
I enjoyed the effect you gained at the loss of sharpness. Smile

Good afternoon Lorell and Peter.

Nice photo Lorell and congrats on a new lens. I have considered a Lens Baby off and on but have never pulled the trigger. I have too many lenses as it is, and have actually been thinking of either selling or trading a few of them. I have the 150-600 for my Nikon D500 which I use a lot, and now (or soon) will be available a 150-600 for the Z body. But I'm not sure it would be worth it to get that and get rid of the D500 and long lens. I really like that body and lens even though it is a bit heavy. Performs very well for my bird photography. I'll be taking it with me to New Mexico and the Laredo Birding Festival, but don't plan on taking it on the Panama Canal cruise nor the Ireland/Scotland trip. I'll make do with the Z6 and a medium zoom. And my little point and shoot Lumix.

Here are a couple more from the last New Mexico Bosque del Apache trip. I just liked the pattern and texture of the corn stalk, and to colors.

Wow Don. I like your cornstalk with its colour contrasts but I love the bird. What bird is that?

RE: Tuesday, October 24, 2023 - Luv2shoot - 10-24-2023

I agree with Peter. It is just a corn stalk, but there is something about it that makes it a very interesting eye catching image. Is it the colors, details, textures, bokeh, contrast, patterns, or all of those things?

Also, I have never seen a bird like that, Don. It is not like you not to a
Identify a bird. Anxiously waiting the answer to Peter’s question.

If you hover your mouse over the photo, the filename is displayed; this reveals that Don identified the bird as a Gambel's Quail.

RE: Tuesday, October 24, 2023 - Don - 10-25-2023

Thanks for the comments guys. Yes, Gambel's Quail. Saw several in New Mexico. Reminds me of some cartoon I used to watch as a kid. I believe they are fairly common in the western U.S. I liked the corn stalk as well. Just shows how something common can be very "photogenic". I'll try to find some more images from Bosque del Apache to post in today's (Wednesday) chat.

Thanks. I didn't know that such a bird existed.
