Sat/Sun Oct 21/22 - Dave - 10-21-2023

I got a check for $1000 (from a California Lottery scratcher), so yesterday I walked to the bank to deposit it. That's about a 2 mile round trip. I started around 10:30 AM under clear skies and mild temperatures. It was rather hot on the return leg and I faded badly, slowing way down and feeling a little dizzy despite drinking one bottle of water and pouring another bottle over my head.

Along the way I managed 3 photos worth working on.

1) Not sure what variety this is, but I liked the yellow against the lavender & pink...

2) Don't know what this one is either, but the strong blue caught my eye...

3) Pretty sure this is a variety of plumeria; I really like the colors and found this photo to be soothing and peaceful...

Wishing all of us a good weekend.

Good morning Dave and thanks for starting the weekend. Three nice images but I think I am partial to the blue one (Number 2). Really stands out.

Sounds like you might have had a little case of Heat Exhaustion.  Be careful with that. Glad you made it home OK.

I took this photo somewhere in West Virginia on our last camping trip. (Hopefully we will have some more folks check in today or tomorrow).

Greetings All!
Dave, All expertly  photographed  and presented!
I was thinking the second one was an artichoke in bloom but I am no expert on floral.

Don, pretty colors on your capture. Well seen and photographed.

Here are a couple I shot recently. A spooky pumpkin cowboy and a side view of the Palace.

I am heading out Sunday for a week long bus tour of Tennessee. Will include the smoky mountains, Nashville and Dollywood. May have mentioned that before.

Thanks for your comments, Don. Yes, that blue does stand out nicely.

Two impressions I got from your nice photo: 1) I noticed the graceful curves of the stems, and even though I can think of not reason that would benefit the plants from an evolutionary perspective, nature gifts us with many similar examples. 2) The colors are very nice, and struck me as being similar to the colors that a prism would produce.

Regarding my discomfort on my walk yesterday, I immediately thought it might be the initial symptoms of a mild case of heat exhaustion. And I know that can be serious. There was no shade to be found, so I just slowed my walking way down.

Hi Rich. Very nice night time photos. Enjoy your bus trip.

Dave, I neglected to mention your walk experience. That had to be a bit concerning. I hope you have recovered by now.

RE: Sat/Sun Oct 21/22 - Dave - 10-21-2023

Thanks for your concern, Rich.

Yes, I am fine. But I can't help but lament how poorly my body handles even moderate temperature extremes now. Back in 1971 I spent 3 summer months on an archaeology dig (at Cahokia – I know you have a good grasp of American archaeology so I think you know about Cahokia.) near St. Louis. The temperature was in the 90s and low 100s and the humidity was usually 90% or higher - didn't bother me a bit. But I was 21 years old then and in near peak physical condition.

I've read that the human body reaches its physical peak at around age 25 – it's all downhill from there. I just had no idea how steep that downhill slope would be.

Well, as many miles you walk each week you're doing pretty darn good.

Great photos every one of them. I'd say more but I'd better go and walk some miles in my shoes.
