Friday, Sept 22, 2023 - Don - 09-22-2023 Good morning folks. Looks like warm weather is returning to Georgia, but not as hot as it was a few weeks ago. No rain either. Here's a couple more from W. Va. The second photo is of Thurmond, W.V., an almost ghost town. The current population is less than 10 as I recall. Interesting place to visit. As with many of the abandoned or nearly abandoned towns that the railroad passed through, the train still does. Even stops at the Amtrak station sometimes. RE: Friday, Sept 22, 2023 - Rich - 09-22-2023 Greetings Don! Good close up. I like the rain or dew drops on the leaves. Interesting blue color! Dragonfly I am assuming. Good looking old buildings. They don't build them like that anymore. Right next to the RR tracks. Very convenient back in the day! RE: Friday, Sept 22, 2023 - Luv2shoot - 09-22-2023 GOOD MORNING, DON AND RICH. Well, last night meeting went well. It seems like everytime I have to host the meeting, new members come walking in. It has absolutely nothing to do with me, but it happened again last night. FIVE new people arrived and FOUR people signed up at the end of the meeting. That means that our little club that was down to about 8 active members grew has grown to has grown to have 27! Oh my. For last evening's meeting, we had 17 members submit 96 photographs. That was actually TOO many to look at. Each member can submit at many as 6 photos for three different categories. I think we need to reduce that number. Don, how many photographs are usually shared at your monthly meetings? Our meeting last night ended at 9:30. That was three hours. It went buy faster for me since I was the NERVOUS master of ceremony, but I thought that the slide show was way too long and got to be boring. I shared that with the vice president who was with me last night, thankfully, and am waiting to hear back from him regarding my thoughts about reducing the number of photos for the slide show. Some of the members talk a wee bit too long about their photos, we don't always need to know the "STORY" behind the photo. Many tell tidbits about their vacation or a funny incident that happened. I also feel that personally, I could have eliminated two or three from the six that I submitted. I only care to share THE VERY BEST, and sometimes I do not have a few that rank that high according to my standards. I cannot remember if I shared this one with you yet. I usually have a coding system but sometimes I forget to mark the photo as "shared". So, I got good feedback on this one. My husband actually spotted this BUNCH OF BOVINES as we were driving around up north. He stopped the car, I rolled down the window, and GOT LUCKY. I apologize if you have already seen it. LORELL RE: Friday, Sept 22, 2023 - Rich - 09-22-2023 Lorell, congrats on your leadership and WoW, your club has grown! I was in our CC for 20 years but it is no longer active. I think digital took it out. When you say slide show do you mean a digital slide show or an actual slide and projector? Is the digital image projected on a screen? Yes I think 6 is way to many. I believe we had a limit of two for each format, prints and film slides. I feel that digital photos with a phone took our club out. Members used them for everything and wouldn't print anything. We were a small club. at the largest about 10-12. Yours is alive and well, that's great! A wonderful shot of bovines! Good exposure! I don't remember seeing it. RE: Friday, Sept 22, 2023 - Dave - 09-22-2023 Very nice, Don. I don't remember ever seeing a dragonfly sporting that nice blue color. Is that the old abandoned train station? What a nice photo. Maybe it's just my old unreliable eyes, but is everything leaning a couple of degrees to the right? Lorell, I'm happy for your photo club that it is adding new members. I like your photo: the white cows being in front of the dark ones adds a lot of depth to the image. Ell done. Hi Rich. I took a photo yesterday of a red ladybug on a green tomato and tried to correct its faults. But it's still a poor photo. Fortunately, as I was returning from another walk late this morning I somehow spotted a small spider on its web that stretched from one of my pots of tomato plants to another. I positioned myuself so that an orange pot provided a contrasting background. Processing was minimal: a crop, minor value adjustments, and mild USM on the spider. I estimate that the image is about 80% SOOTC. It appears to be another orb weaver spider... RE: Friday, Sept 22, 2023 - Don - 09-22-2023 Dave, it does appear to be listing to starboard a bit. Two of those buildings were banks and I think the third was maybe a store. The train station is behind where I was standing. Amtrak still makes stops there, not sure how often. Nice spider shot by the way, I like the orange. Lorell, that shot reminds me of an old masters painting for some reason. Has similar lighting to me. Our little chapter is small, there were only about 8 members present when I have my presentation. We meet in a community center from 6:30 until 8:00, when they close. My slide show lasted about 45 minutes. We don't typically share photos at the meetings although we sometimes have a meeting just for that. Usually we have a "speaker", either from outside or one of the members. Very casual. Oh, and I think that is a Damselfly and not a Dragonfly. I usually tell by the position of the wings. Dragonflies have their wings straight out from the body while Damselflies fold their wings back and aligned with the body. RE: Friday, Sept 22, 2023 - Rich - 09-22-2023 Top notch photo Dave, nice plain BG with a good color! |
