Good day all! A beautiful Morning in South Dakota. Hope all is well in your part of the world.

Our lake however has it's annual problem with algae. Fix is to dredge the bottom and fix the incoming problem upstream that feeds the lake. Starting price $25 million.

So they aren't blaming on warmer temperatures?

Hi Rich, and any who follow.

Yes, your photo indicates a beautiful day. Nice work.

Regarding the annual algae problem, I imagine that whatever city or county or state agencies or departments who have to deal with it would love to find a better approach. Preventing the algae problem once and for all seems to be more logical and efficient than dealing with it year after year. (Not meant as a criticism, just an observation.)

Intense morning light today caught the edge of a planter, and the photos I took led me to emphasize the somewhat complementary colors...

Peter and Dave.
Well, this has been an annual summer event for a long time and summer temps in SD are normally 80-90 in July and August so I guess no blame can be put on global warming. The blame goes to fertilizer both natural and manufactured. Upstream is basically farm land for cattle and crops. So the runoff into the creek is high in nitrogen. The theory from those in the know is that cattails will filter this problem so there will be lots of them planted upstream. The thing is, many years ago when the algae problem started they dredged the west end of the lake which is where the creek comes in. Not knowing at the time, they dredged out many cattails. Now we have a worse problem. It is a city problem so the taxpayers are on the hook. Some grants may be available. And so it goes.......

Dave, I like this very contemporary photo! The rain puddles really add interest for me.

Hi MFI.

Thanks Rich. It was the kind of offbeat photo that I figured only I would be interested in, but I'm pleased that you saw some value in it.

The dredging that eliminated the cattails is an example of man's stupidity in meddling with mother nature without knowing the ramifications. One example is the introduction of non-indigenous rabbits into Australia. Some cite the date as 1788 when rabbits were introduced as a food source. Others refer to the mid 1800s when they were introduced solely for the "sport" of hunting. Big mistake in all cases because rabbits quickly spread across the country in a  devastating invasion.

Closer to my home, around 70 years ago the City of Huntington Beach planted a variety of small pine trees in the small areas between the street and the sidewalks, and a different larger tree in other parts of the city. This without knowing or considering the consequences. Both types of trees have caused costly problems over the past 10 to 20 years - the growing roots buckled the sidewalks and in many cases penetrated the main water lines into and out of the homes, costing the city a lot of money for tree removal and in many cases to reimburse homeowners who paid for repairs to their main water lines.

Will we ever learn?

Multiple wrongs to the environment yet it is the consumer who ends up paying the bills for the damage to the ecosystem.
Dave, I do like your image and I don't believe it is offbeat. Artistic yes but not off beat in my perception.

On the soccer:
France and Chelsea defender Ève Périsset is set to mark Matildas star Caitlin Foord in Saturday's Women's World Cup quarterfinal, while giving her teammates tips on how to handle Sam Kerr.
Foord has been in sensational form at the World Cup, especially since moving from a central striker role out to the left.

Her understanding with full-back Steph Catley has blossomed, highlighted by her great goal in the 2-0 win over Denmark in the round of 16.

Périsset, who has marked the Arsenal forward in their Women's Super League clashes, will take that challenge head-on when France plays the Matildas in Brisbane/Meanjin.

"She's (Foord) a very, very good player," Périsset told reporters through a translator.

"It's true that I play against her with Chelsea. She's very strong in one-one-one, in the duel.

"So I will try to avoid … [giving her] some spaces. I will try to defend well, I know that it will be — it can be — difficult but I will do my best to do that because she is a good player. She is very fast.

"We're going analyse their (Foord and Catley's) qualities, their understanding and then we will see what the coach wants to do to try to avoid too much success between the two of them."

But at some point Périsset, who was left on the bench for the July 14 friendly against Australia, will have to face another threat: Chelsea colleague Kerr.

The Maltidas captain returned from injury off the bench against Denmark and appears poised for more minutes against France.

Périsset is aware of how 'Kerr-mania' has captured Australia and has no plans of letting it go to another level.

"I knew that because I saw her everywhere in the cities and the stadiums, I saw a lot of supporters as well with the jersey of Sam," she said.

"Of course I know her very well. I am really happy that she began her competition by entering in the last game.

"We need to be very careful of her, of course, and to pay attention to what she will do on Saturday.

"She's a threat because she's got very good moves on the pitch. She is efficient in the box. So this is something we have to pay attention to. She's got a very good aerial game.

"And of course I will give all the advice I can to my teammates to try to counter her, to play against her."

Thank you MFI. Your opinion of my photos carries a lot of weight, and of course your thoughts on how poorly we are taking care of our planet (which seem to be pretty much the same as mine) even more so.

Thanks for the praise of my opinions, though I'm hardly worthy. I've never done an arts course or even a photography course.
I'm no angel but I did make life changing decisions due to what I could see happening to our environment way back when women were burning their bras.
To my mind the world has moved far too slowly towards righting these wrongs and are still not moving fast enough.
