Tuesday, June 27, 2023 - Dave - 06-27-2023 Good day, folks. No new photo subjects from me lately. But the day is young and I feel more energetic than usual today, so maybe I'll find something to photograph. For now, here's a fence lizard taken late morning two days ago. You can see a bit of the blue throat patch that the males sport... RE: Tuesday, June 27, 2023 - damar - 06-27-2023 Thanks everyone for the warm greetings last Friday! Good to see you all too! I DO think of all of you often. Hi Dave! Great looking Fence Lizard capture! Nice texture on the concrete too. The blue flash is interesting. 2 things we haven't seen much of this year: lizards and normally we are stopping to remove land dwelling tortoises out of the road before they get run over, but they were not seen this year. I mentioned it to my son and he said; "come to think of it, we haven't seen them either". We did have some very cold temperatures this past December. I hope that didn't depopulate them. I don't have anything new to post but its getting close to supper time and pizza sounds good. (this place closed down a few years ago) I shot this sometime around 2007 I think. RE: Tuesday, June 27, 2023 - Man From Ironbark - 06-27-2023 Yes. Nice to see you back Patty. Nice restaurant photo. Dave's fence lizard shot is cool even though it is looks hot on that concrete block. Here's a close look at assorted ground flora.
RE: Tuesday, June 27, 2023 - damar - 06-27-2023 Greetings MFIB! So good to see you too! I hope you and your family are all well. What a beautiful assortment of earthy little details; color, texture and mineral. Almost enough to make a person want to tread carefully. I couldn't step on that! Dave, I planted 2 better boy tomatoes and ONE "tabasco" pepper plant. A tomato plant sprouted up from last years plant. Most likely sterile but it already has blossoms on it. But I am treating it as if its good. I pulled a "weed" out of the raised bed and it had a cracked acorn still attached to it. An oak tree sprout, Then I HAD to put it back in the ground. Thats what DH gets for cutting down its parents last year! RE: Tuesday, June 27, 2023 - Man From Ironbark - 06-27-2023 At times when walking in the bush, others have asked me "where are all the orchids?" I say; turn around and look behind you at your footprints on them. All tomatoes are fertile. However they need certain conditions to produce fruit. One of these is pollination. Firstly they need to be producing flowers, which needs the right temperatures. Many tomato growers who may be short of buzz pollinators, use a technique known as caning. Which consists of using a cane or a pencil, an old paintbrush to tap the plant and thus shake pollen on the flowers beneath. I encourage the native solitary bees such as the blue banded bee. A buzz pollinator buzzes the flower and thus shakes pollen off. As to getting close to such as moss and lichen, I have an album of those. Some of them are even a bit arty maybe?
