Tuesday, April 18, 2023 - Dave - 04-18-2023 No Daily yesterday - sad. I was recuperating after a strenuous (and productive) weekend: I dug up another 40 lb (18 kg) load of weeds and the green bin is again full until trash pickup day. I sowed seeds (thanks again Steve) of 6 varieties of heirloom tomatoes (have another 7 or 8 more varieties to go), and potted one seedling heirloom tomato plant. I also replaced the soil in my small raised bed and sowed seeds of 3 varieties (Thai Hot, Poblano, and Big Thai Hybrid) of hot peppers, leaving room for a couple more varieties. With the old soil from the pots and the raised bed I leveled some areas in the front yard where I intend to sow seeds of Gaillardia and Ice Plant. I also got in about 5-1/3 miles of walks. Yesterday I cooked up a big batch of bean & ham soup; enough for 6 or 7 meals. I followed my usual practice of making this rather bland, so that each time I decide to heat some up I can season that meal' s serving differently. But all this activity came at a cost - my back became so stiff and sore that I have used up nearly all my Salonpas patches. Here's a lily taken on Saturday... RE: Tuesday, April 18, 2023 - Quint - 04-18-2023 Dave, hope the seeds do well for you. I have 75 tomato plants up now but they need some sun and warmer weather. Great looking lily !! RE: Tuesday, April 18, 2023 - Luv2shoot - 04-18-2023 Hey boys, My weekend sounded similar to your, Dave. But instead of picking up 40 pounds of weeds. I threw down 10 - 40 pound bags of top soil in the backyard as my husband raked the dirt filling up all the holes in our lawn. It dows not sound like much, but I am still hurting from that activity. We could use another 15 bags though and it must get done sooner than later. I was tempted to plant tomato seeds, but I have no room in my house to keep them. I have enough to keep me busy anyway. I hope your plants grow big and strong and are fruitful. Sounds like a Hallmark Card in a way. I figured you would be busy Steve starting your variety of heirloom tomato. We had warm weather last week but the rooftops were covered with a thin layer of snow. The only good thing about that is I think the grass seeds that I planted will like the cool nights and warmer days. This is LOCAL photo club week and Dave your lily would fit perfectly for one of our topics, UNBALANCED. Your pretty well-focused white lily sits nicely off-center and with a lot of negative space around it. I just love that tiny rain drop dangling at the end of the petal. I feel like if I wait long enough it will fall off. It is so small but creates a lot of drama. Well seen, Dave. Here is one UNBALANCED composition that I will be submitting for Thursday meeting. RE: Tuesday, April 18, 2023 - Quint - 04-18-2023 Lorell, your composition and lighting are top notch. RE: Tuesday, April 18, 2023 - Dave - 04-19-2023 Thanks Quint. WOW - 75 plants. That's impressive. Lorell, wrestling with 10 40-pound bags of soil DOES sound like a lot. Beautiful image, and it sure suits the topic. RE: Tuesday, April 18, 2023 - Rich - 04-19-2023 Dave, just a beautiful lily and presentation! I agree with Lorell! I would say you overdid it Dave! Take a break before you break! Hi Steve, glad you got thawed out and are back. I have a friend in Oregon that says it was chilly there. Lorell, definitely unbalanced your CC has a bunch of rule breakers! I am a little unbalanced too, not mentally but physically with my bad hip. Getting close to spring here. Had a couple of summer days in the 80's last week. |
