Friday, January 13, 2023 - Dave - 01-13-2023 TGIF everyone. And happy Friday the 13th to we triskaidekaphiles. It'll be a fine day here today (already saw a nice sunrise) - high in the low 60s (17 C) with partly clear skies most of the day. But more rain coming tomorrow starting around 7:00 AM. Here's the last of my "after the rain stopped" shots from 3 days ago, taken a few paces from my front door... For those interested (and I realize I'm probably the only one, but I need to document this for a bet with my neighbor) here are my predictions for the NFL playoffs: Saturday: San Francisco over Seattle easily LA Chargers narrowly over Jacksonville Tomorrow: Buffalo over Miami easily Minnesota narrowly over New York Giants, but this one could go either way Cincinnati over Baltimore, but if injured Baltimore starting QB Lamar Jackson plays it will be very close Monday: Dallas over Tampa Bay (But Dallas has a habit of choking, and betting against Tom Brady is risky.) I expect Kansas City and Cincinnati will face each other for the AFC title, with KC winning a close one. And for the NFC title game I have San Francisco beating Philadelphia. SUPER BOWL: I'm picking San Francisco to beat KC, 34-27. RE: Friday, January 13, 2023 - Adamphotoman - 01-13-2023 Morning Dave, We still have Winter Wonderland and just slightly below freezing. Not too onerous for us as we are used to it. {Although I am a bit jealous of your always summer] RE: Friday, January 13, 2023 - Luv2shoot - 01-13-2023 Hello Dave and Grant. Boy Grant, your winter just keeps on giving and giving. Another beautiful capture. Dave, thanks for keeping things bright and positive as we face another wet and dreary day here in southern Michigan. I really like the starbursts leaves and nice soft background. Here's another from my trip to the automotive museum. As I entered the museum, there was a new glass enclosed display of mechanical toys and other memories from the late 1800's to the early 1900's. Many of the toys were really cool but difficult to capture due to the reflection on the glass enclosure. Here is one item, though, that I photographed. It is a Kellogg Phone, Circa 1930 with an attached Courtesy Box labeled Detroit Michigan. A little history:The Kellogg Switchboard and Supply Company was an American manufacturer of telecommunication equipment. Anticipating the expiration of the earliest, fundamental Bell System patents, Milo G. Kellogg, an electrical engineer, founded the company in 1897 in Chicago to produce telephone exchange equipment and telephone apparatus. Along with Western Electric, which supplied the Bell System, Automatic Electric supplying General Telephone, and Stromberg-Carlson, also supplying the independent telephone markets, Kellogg shared in the business of providing the bulk of the nation's telephone equipment until after World War II. RE: Friday, January 13, 2023 - Dreamin - 01-13-2023 Dave, those leaves have interest by themselves, but the rain drops sure do add a lot more!! Grant, I just can't imagine having that beautiful white wonderland around for so long! Lovely! Lorell, that is a handsome phone photo.....Love the B&W it suits the subject. Well, we had some windy and rainy weather, always a good time to work on a jigsaw puzzle...this one was 1000 pieces and 26" by 19 inches. All that white peeling paint was a nightmare!! RE: Friday, January 13, 2023 - Adamphotoman - 01-13-2023 Thanks for the comments foto friends. Dave, Love the raindrops!!! Lorell, LUV the phone in B&W.... Here are some more with light from GOD.... RE: Friday, January 13, 2023 - Luv2shoot - 01-14-2023 Grant, you must be walking around everyday in awe! Natalie, I thought that might have been an actual photo that you took when I first saw it. RE: Friday, January 13, 2023 - Man From Ironbark - 01-14-2023 Technically, all jigsaws are a photo.
RE: Friday, January 13, 2023 - Dave - 01-14-2023 Thanks for the nice reactions to my water drop macro. Beautiful winter images Grant, as always. Excellent, Lorell. As noted, B&W suits it. Any relation to the Kellogg family of cereal fame? Natalie, I can imagine how hard the areas of white paint were. I love jigsaw puzzles, as did my mother and her father. The hardest one I ever saw was called Little Red Riding Hood's hood: it was round, probably had 700 to 1000 pieces, and was just a solid red color - no help at all from image details. My grandfather, a man of remarkable patience, solved it first (just after Christmas, sometime in the early 1960s). Then I borrowed it - took many days, but I finally got it put together. Thanks for sparking pleasant memories of my grandfather. BTW, one of my daily habits is to visit www.jigzone.com and assemble one or more puzzles. They have many, conveniently arranged in categories, and you can choose from 35 combinations of piece count and piece shape. RE: Friday, January 13, 2023 - Man From Ironbark - 01-14-2023 I don't cast any nasturtiums against your raindrops, Dave.
RE: Friday, January 13, 2023 - Dreamin - 01-14-2023 Dave, when my mom was in her last few months, her kids and grandkids would take turns sitting with her. To pass the time we did puzzles. I took a couple of photos, one of her dishes and memorabilia, and one of her and her huge clematis vine and turned them into 16 x 20 inch puzzles....she really enjoyed those as they were more personal...... |
