Wednesday, 04 Jan, 2023 - Dave - 01-04-2023 Here's a local sunrise taken 2 mornings ago... Very little processing on this one: Because I shot with a faster shutter speed (to minimize blur caused by shooting handheld) than the low light level dictated, I had to increase the exposure in Photoshop Camera Raw. The only other adjustment was to correct perspective distortion in Photoshop. It probably looks like I intensified the colors but I didn't, and I didn't even need to sharpen. Mother Nature created this colorful scene; I was lucky enough to be there with my camera. I hope you all are having or had a good day. RE: Wednesday, 04 Jan, 2023 - Don - 01-04-2023 Good morning Dave - thanks for starting the Wed thread. Nice shot. RE: Wednesday, 04 Jan, 2023 - dewarp - 01-04-2023 Wow! Great image Dave. And mother nature didn't come up with the frame! Normally, I am not fond of over-the-top frames, but this one really sets it off. Well done indeed. By the way, I also rather liked the two dripping roses you posted recently. regards - Pete RE: Wednesday, 04 Jan, 2023 - Rich - 01-04-2023 Dave, one of your best sunrises. Beautiful colors. I agree with Pete about the framing. When I was just starting out, a professional framer told me not to use a white matt ( I always did) because your eye always goes to the brightest area first. You want people to look at your photo/painting first, not the matt. Matching the matt color with a color in the image is best. Your blue matt is dark and matches. An orange or pink matt wouldn't work. I have used black matts on some of my paintings which looked good. Hi Don and Pete! Here is the results of our 21 inches of snow as of a half hour ago. RE: Wednesday, 04 Jan, 2023 - Dave - 01-04-2023 Thanks Don, Pete, and Rich. Pete and Rich, I agree with you about frames. A frame and mat should never steal attention from the artwork, and when I take an image to be framed I almost always choose a wide white or off-white mat and a thin quite dark wooden (because metal ones scratch too easily) frame. For posting I used to add a simple dark 1 or 2 pixel around the image. But it seems to me that the stark white background here on FotoFriends often makes posted images (especially dark ones) look bad. So recently I came up with the routine of surrounding my posted images with a thin, usually light colored 2 pixel inner border sampled from the image; then a wider (70 to 90 pixels) outer border also sampled from the image but often tweaked to be less saturated and somewhat grayer. I think this makes the images look better when posted. But it not intended to simulate a mat and frame, and doesn't represent how I would have them matted and framed. Rich, that's a lot of snow accumulation since your previous shots. I fear that Lorell may be in for some similarly heavy snowfall, and I hope our members in the SE are spared more thunderstorms and tornadoes. |
