Monday, Dec 19, 2022 - Don - 12-19-2022 Good morning all - start of another week. Only a couple more to go in this year... A chilly morning here with a temp of 30F. First time below freezing I think for this season. Got home yesterday from a little trip to visit DW's sister and BIL. Small family gathering. Nephew tested positive for Covid so he couldn't come but fortunately he found out before the gathering. I didn't even take my cameras with me so no photos to share this morning. Hope all had a good weekend. RE: Monday, Dec 19, 2022 - Luv2shoot - 12-19-2022 Good Morning, Don. On way to swim and had a few extra moments before I leave. It seems that once I go to the class, maybe stop to pick something up on the way home, drive back, make breakfast, do this do that, it is a long time before I find the time to sit back down and get on the computer. Sounds like you had a nice gathering. A lot of people are reporting that they have this new strain of Covid. A friend of mine had a party of about 50 people yesterday. I will be waiting to here if anyone got Covid after that. I sure do hope not. Well, I will start the week off with this one. On the right is the MIGHTY ALLEGHANY STEAM LOCOMOTIVE now resting in the HENRY FORD MUSEUM. It was built in 1941. On the left is The DeWitt Clinton Steam Engine. It is an American steam locomotive and the first working steam locomotive built for service in New York state. The locomotive was built in 1831 ( wikipedia.org ) Have a good MONDAY. LORELL RE: Monday, Dec 19, 2022 - Dave - 12-19-2022 Thanks for starting our Daily, Don. Lorell, beautiful photo of those old steam vehicles. My day got off to an irritating start: got a robo-dialed call spoofing a local number at 6:00 AM and I answered to give them hell but nobody responded; most likely came from a lowlife call center in India. I got another one (displaying a similar spoofed number) about an hour later. I sure hope that there is a special place in hell for these criminals. I still haven't shaken the symptoms of an incipient cold. It's been going on for weeks and that's unusual so I took a home COVID test and it showed positive. Repeated the test and it came up negative, so who knows? Here's an old photo (I'm not sure exactly when I took it, but probably between 15 and 20 years ago) that marked a few firsts in my photography: 1) it's one of the first that I had printed and framed; one of the first with a successful bit of strong processing towards a planned effect; and one that ignited my interest in outdoor nature photography and processing my photos. It also won an award a monthly meeting of my local art league. It's far from perfect, but it motivated me to do more. Wishing you all a great week. RE: Monday, Dec 19, 2022 - Luv2shoot - 12-19-2022 I can relate to your story, Dave, about a certain photo that motivated you to continue your pursuit in the field of photography. I will NEVER throw that photograph away and had it on my wall for years. I can see why your capture of the birds in mid air and the way they are so perfectly composed on the image was one that ignited your love for the craft. Very cool. LORELL PS. Our two photos have the same tones. RE: Monday, Dec 19, 2022 - Man From Ironbark - 12-19-2022 I can relate to the magic of photography coursing through our veins. Lorell that's a really good subject to get depth in a photo. Dave, I love this photo. Everything about it. RE: Monday, Dec 19, 2022 - Adamphotoman - 12-19-2022 Lorell, I too like your Steam Engine. Dave, perfect balance of mystery & intrigue. Love it....Colour, sharp and motion blur. RE: Monday, Dec 19, 2022 - Luv2shoot - 12-19-2022 Thank you all. And it feels so good to speak to people who can totally relate to what you are trying to say. RE: Monday, Dec 19, 2022 - Dave - 12-20-2022 Thank you for the kind words, Lorell, MFI, and Grant. RE: Monday, Dec 19, 2022 - Dreamin - 12-20-2022 Don, I worry about gatherings, I hope you do not come down with anything serious....we are all tired of this covid/flu mess....maybe 2023 will bring some good news for all of us..... Lorell, since I can't do a lot of walking because of really bad knees, painful back, Dr suggested swimming....but I always hated swimming pools...can't bring myself to join the Y. Really wonderful shot of the trains, great perspective and I love the lighting. Dave, seems like you have been very sick a lot this year.....I hope you can improve your immunity and get past all of it....I like your shot of the geese, reminds me of one I took a long time ago....the processing gives it a dreamy look....well done. I took a semester of photography way back in the 70's, I even thought of starting a darkroom in my bathroom at some point....got the enlarger (rusting in the attic somewhere) and then I dropped my 35mm camera down the side of a mountain. After that I could not afford to replace it, had 2 kids, worked on a farm.....did not take many photos....then around 2004 got my first digital camera....used....I looked online and found WC....I was SO nervous to post ....unfortunately I lost my images from 2004 to 2006 when computer crashed.....big lesson in doing back ups!! Eventually got up enough nerve to post to WC....I enjoyed learning new things and doing challenges....it was really my biggest hobby. I was asked many times to start doing weddings, but I never wanted to do it professionally, too much stress and did not have the right equipment and was not good enough......so it's been my favorite hobby ever since...but lately, it's been an effort to go out and take photos....over the years I have shot almost everything within 50 miles of me....so it's hard to get motivated to find new opportunites....oh, well.....I can enjoy your photos....and every once in a while chime in.... RE: Monday, Dec 19, 2022 - Man From Ironbark - 12-21-2022 Covid has so depleted many lives and destroyed community harmony. I'll certainly be relieved if or when we can ever see light at the end of this tunnel. Though myself and the Mrs have not yet contracted the disease, our children and grandchildren have, twice. The human genome has been put hard to the test for survival of late. I so hope everyone can have a peaceful and healthy holiday break. It often feels so lonely out here.
