Thursday, 6 Oct 2022 - Don - 10-06-2022

Good morning all. If you haven't seen Lorell's post from yesterday with the link to the video, I highly recommend doing that. I am about half way through it and find it fascinating, and making me want to try some of those techniques. I will try to put some of them to the test for sure on the Smokies trip that is coming up.

I went back in the archives from a few years ago when I was playing around with moving the zoom while exposing and found a few. Here is one - not great but gives and idea of the technique. There are a number of different techniques discussed in the video.

Tomorrow we are going to visit the Georgia National Fair to find out if my entries did any good. I only submitted 4 this year. Hopefully we will not encounter any traffic accidents along the way like last time.

Don, yes, interesting video. I have a few film shots that I can share using some of the techniques.

Sounds like a fun outing, safe travels!

Your photo looks like a spider web, cool!

Speaking of spider webs, it is the season!

Thanks Rich - yes, getting closer to Halloween isn't it?

That photo does look kind of like a spider web.

When I finished watching the video, I came away with the same feelings.  I would like to try some of the NEW ideas that he presented.  I also looked at the two photographers that he mentioned in the video.  There are plenty of good examples there.

Rich, I cannot imagine trying the ICM techniques using film.  I have also attempted zooming out and in and up and down, but I was never able to get anything that I was happy about. I would have wasted a lot of film if I didn't have a digital camera.

I do recall one or two of Natalie's ICM images.  I was so impressed with them, that I immediately tried the technique.  Like I said, I have never been able to produce anything that I felt comfortable sharing.  If I can find the images, I will share some of my rejects.  Way a minute, they were all rejects.

What I liked about the video, he mentioned little things that would lead to more success.  For example, find tree without horizontal limbs, take multiple takes of the same scene so that you can use a more "infocus" image to showcase the subject, move around the image, just don't shake the camera.
All things that I need to try.

Don, that was a neat technique you did with the tree and it turned out to be very interesting.
I hope you don't mind, but I will save mine to start tomorrow's daily.
