Sat/Sun Aug 27/28 - Don - 08-27-2022 Welcome to the weekend everyone. Well, today I was notified that the domain name fotofriends.net was set to auto renew next month, which means we have been "on the air" for almost a year now. Overall I'd say the forum is a success although perhaps a few more members would be nice. Still, we have a great core group here, but when one or two become inactive for a while, for whatever reason, it really shows. I know that I don't post as much as perhaps I should, but I do check regularly to see what is going on. But right now I am about to gear up and take advantage of this weather to ride my motorcycle. I went up to a covered bridge yesterday and shot a roll of B&W file, posted a photo over in the monthly challenge thread. Looking forward to another good year. RE: Sat/Sun Aug 27/28 - Dave - 08-27-2022 Hi Don and any who come along later. Enjoy your ride. Here's the color version of the floral I posted late yesterday in the B&W Challenge... I can't decide which version I prefer. This color version is bright and indeed colorful. On the other hand, there's something to be said for old school B&W, especially when it works out as planned. Have a good weekend, everyone. RE: Sat/Sun Aug 27/28 - Luv2shoot - 08-28-2022 Thanks, Don, because of you we are still together. I apologize for my lack of participation recently. I was up north with DD for the entire week. We had such a nice time. Usually we only spend a weekend after which we say, we just needed one more day. This time on the way home we said, We just needed one more week! I will spend some time in the morning trying to catch up on what I missespd and look for something to add to Dave’s pleasing floral image. It is stunning, Dave. RE: Sat/Sun Aug 27/28 - Man From Ironbark - 08-28-2022 These are the flowers of Diuris maculata or Leopard orchid with Mrs MFI's legs in back and complete with one of the mosquitoes that were biting ferociously.
RE: Sat/Sun Aug 27/28 - Don - 08-28-2022 Great composition on the yellow flower Dave. Sharp and good bokeh as well. Peter, that looks like a pretty big mosquito! Welcome back Lorell, sounds like you had a good visit. I rode over to Andersonville, Georgia and shot 2 rolls of B&W 120 film. For those in the U.S. you might recall that Andersonville is the site of a notorious prisoner of war camp for the Confederacy. I can't imagine what the conditions were like. There were other camps, both north and south, but apparently Andersonvile was the worst as far as conditions went. Sad. I am going to try to develop the film this afternoon and maybe post some photos later. RE: Sat/Sun Aug 27/28 - Don - 08-28-2022 Looks like another slow weekend. I just finished developing 2 rolls of 120 film from yesterday's ride and the negs are drying now. I am using a homemade mix of D23 developer using only 2 ingredients. Not sure I will continue to do this after I use the chemicals I purchased, or go back to Ilford HC concentrate. I actually think it might be a little more cost effective to use the Ilford although the up front cost is more. Here is a photo showing how the covered bridge was constructed on the inside with wooden pegs. RE: Sat/Sun Aug 27/28 - Luv2shoot - 08-28-2022 Looking forward to seeing your images from your trip, Don. How old do you think that bridge is? Do you think that is the original construction? Peter, I admire the colorful design of those leopard orchids. Look at the top two petals of the bloom, they look like wings or aeronautical structures of some kind. How sweet it is that the color of the stem matches the patches of colors in the flower. Only you can find so many species of wild orchids in Australia. I have only come across one here in the states, a purple one. From our club's trip to the Detroit Riverwalk. This carousel operates on the weekends only. I will show a close up of some of the individual seats. I was not a fan of it at first because it was unlike your typical carousel with colorful characters and benches. But i think that it was designed to fit in with the setting where it presides, that is, along the Detroit River Walk. RE: Sat/Sun Aug 27/28 - Don - 08-28-2022 Lorell, the bridge was constructed in 1840 by freed slave Horace King. Mr King built quite a number of covered bridges in the deep south and was known for his skill in doing so. I think this bridge is mostly original although there have been some repairs over the years. It is the longest in Georgia if you count the approaches. There is one bridge in the state that is slightly longer in the actual covered span over a river, but Red Oak Creek is the only one that still allows light traffic. That is an interesting carousel. The "seats" are certainly different. Wonder where Patty got off to? RE: Sat/Sun Aug 27/28 - Adamphotoman - 08-28-2022 Dave, After seeing the colour image, I think you could engineer more detail into the B&W version although as they say "Season to taste", and as you indicated it worked out as planned.... Peter, Interesting plant. Have to say I am not a fan of mosquitoes. Don, I like your B&W. Is it subtly blue tinted? Lorell, That 1st one sure has a intense blue sky. The water makes it. RE: Sat/Sun Aug 27/28 - Don - 08-28-2022 "Don, I like your B&W. Is it subtly blue tinted?" Yes, playing around with different effects/filters. |
