Thursday, August 11, 2022 - Luv2shoot - 08-11-2022

Hello all.
Our trip to downtown Detroit was wonderful.
It is so nice to be able to have new subject matter for our eyes to feast on.
I didn't, however, get many photos of STREET PHOTOGRAPHY, which was our purpose in going on the River Walk.
But I am sure that I can come up with something by next Thursday when our monthly club meeting occurs.

Arriving today will be the first of my husband' family to come to town for a family reunion.  He has 2 brothers and 5 sisters.  Yes, I will be busy for a while.  I always seem to be busy.  Maybe it is because I am slowing up so much now and cannot do two things at once.  Or possible, when I get down doing the one thing, I am tired and procastinate doing the others things that I need to do.  Whatever the reason, I am producing half the amount of outcome that I usually do, I just hope that the quality is still up to the proper standards.

Here is the famous statue that rests at the foot of Woodward avenue in downtown Detroit. I posted the same photo in B&W in the August Challenge thread.  Joe Louis is one of the most famous boxers. Joseph Louis Barrow (May 13, 1914 – April 12, 1981) was an American professional boxer who competed from 1934 to 1951. Nicknamed the Brown Bomber, Louis is widely regarded as one of the greatest and most influential boxers of all time. He reigned as the world heavyweight champion from 1937 until his temporary retirement in 1949. He was victorious in 25 consecutive title defenses, a record for all weight classes.[nb 1][2] Louis had the longest single reign as champion of any boxer in history.

On the back of the arm is engraved:

A Monument to Joe Louis by Robert Graham.
A GIFT FROM SPORTS ILLUSTRATED TO THE PEOPLE OF THE CITY OF DETROIT.THE DETROIT INSTITUTE OF ARTS AND ITS FOUNDERS SOCIETY ON THE OCCASION OF THE MUSEUM'S CENTENNIAL, 1885-1995.

Well, time to move along and shop for food to feed our guests.
Have a great Thursday.
By the way, I posted a B&W version of this in our August Challenge.  I actually like the B&W more.

Powerful sculpture and photo, Lorell. I'll check out the version in the August Challenge.

Don't work too hard today.

Meanwhile, here's another old photo (probably posted on WC years ago) that I reworked a couple of days ago.

I see now that I overdid the sharpening a bit.

Wishing my FotoFriends friends a good day.

That is beautiful, Dave. It looks like you enjoyed creating such an exquisite and eye-catching composition. I really like it.

Thanks for starting the daily, Lorell!
Thats a very cool photo! "Powerful" like Dave aid. I like the angle too.
Nice!
Wow, you are going to have a houseful! Enjoy it though. Family is everything!

Dave, I like the swirling lemony sorbet color of your flower macro!
Nice framing!

I waited years to get my eyes checked and am now trying to adjust to a new prescription.
Ugh. Right now, I hate my new glasses (with progressive bifocals).
I have them previously but my new scrip is a bit stronger.
I'm still in the trial. She said come back in if I am not able to get used to them.

I don't remember if I posted this already (from Botanical Garden last weekend) and I don't have time to go back and check so
sorry if I already posted!

Hi Lorell,
Congrats on the fine street shot. I like the way you tilted the buildings and kept the arm straight.

Dave, I agree with Patty and think that flower image is very dessert like. If you placed a spoon near it you would have fooled me.

Patty, Nice garden image. I wonder how long it took to train the bird to do that :-)

I entered a tomato and three photos in the county fair. We went yesterday and found that I got a 2nd place on my tomato. I'm sure the large cat face on the bottom knocked it down a notch. On the photos I got a third and two first places. Now I have another whole year to select a few more to enter. Lots of good ideas come from you folks.

Lorell, that photo is a knockout! Love it!
Good luck with your company! Take one day at a time!

Dave, awesome composition and I love the two tones only! As Steve said it does look like a spoon in there! Georgia O'Keeffe would have loved to  paint it!

Patty, good luck with the progressive lens', I didn't get used to them so back to the lines.

A good place for a sculpture/water detail! Good exposure.

Here are a couple of shots from an event last night. The High School had a Jazz group for the past three years called the Tri Tones. It will be no longer as most of them are off to college this year. This was their final concert and a fund raiser for the HS band program.

EDIT: Steve congrats on the placing for the tomato and prints. I see a first place in your future!

RE: Thursday, August 11, 2022 - Quint - 08-11-2022

Rich, good looking band and nice crowd.
Thanks for the congrats. Last year I did get a first for a tomato. I always try to get ripe ones entered but I see you may enter green or unripe ones also. I would have many more to select from if I entered green ones.

RE: Thursday, August 11, 2022 - damar - 08-11-2022

Thanks Quint!
Congratulations on the wins! I was wondering how weel ripe tomatoes would hold up between submission and judging.
Good going on the prints too!
That adds to summer fun for sure!

Hi Rich!
The jazz band...They spent 4 years together (most of them) and will remember those days forever.
DD was in Marching Band and had a blast (band camp was the pits though: having to field march in August heat--every year some kid would have to go to the ER from heat exhaustion)
Nice colorful crowd photos! I like the sense of small town community that always comes through in your photos.

RE: Thursday, August 11, 2022 - Rich - 08-12-2022

Thanks Patty, I have a video I will post later. We are supposed to have the annual boat parade of the band when they all get in boats and float around to different spots and play. I don't know if I will make it out and they might not either as it is going to be 101 degrees today with a 25 mph wind.

RE: Thursday, August 11, 2022 - Dave - 08-12-2022

Thanks Lorell.

damar, thank you too. What a neat fountain. I got new glasses several months ago and was slowly getting used to them. Last week they were missing. When wearing an N95 mask I usually take the glasses off and put them in my pocket; maybe they fell out somewhere on one of my walks. Anyway, if I can't find them, that's around $300  to replace them - an expense I can't afford given that inflation has raised prices so dramatically.

Thanks Quint. It does kinda look like a sorbet, as damar first noted. Congrats on your honors at the county fair. If your fair is anything like mine, just getting accepted is an achievement. I entered photos in my county fair for years, and although I never won awards I am proud that I never had a photo rejected.

Thank you Rich. I don't intentionally try for an O'Keefe-like image, but some often end like that. I never tire of seeing photos of your close-knit and supportive community.
