Wednesday, August 10, 2022 - Dave - 08-10-2022 OK, I guess somebody has to start today's Daily. Another photo from 03/27/2005... RE: Wednesday, August 10, 2022 - Rich - 08-10-2022 Dave, I was thinking about it but decided to have lunch! ![]() What an awesome close up! well done. First one I will title " A pair to draw to with a Joker in the middle." Second one shows Tweety Bird embordered on the seats of the Chevy. RE: Wednesday, August 10, 2022 - Dave - 08-10-2022 Thanks Rich. Very fine car shot. The old yellow ones (I have no idea what make, model, or year they are) are gorgeous; I especially like the Tweety Bird detail. The Camaro (1967 or maybe 1968?) brings back memories. My Dad went out and bought my Mom a first-year 350 SS Camaro; that pretty sea green with the black stripes around the front as in your photo. The family joke was that out of the 350 cubic inches, Mom never used more than half of them. But there was one exception, which I've shared before and won't duplicate here. Let's just say the acceleration pinned me into the bucket seat, leaving me with a completely new, absolutely stunning, and greatly enhanced respect for my Mom. RE: Wednesday, August 10, 2022 - Rich - 08-10-2022 Thanks! That's a good story Dave! I believe a 32 Ford and around a 41 Chevy. Sometimes in a juried show they have the year posted. I am sure I will see it again. RE: Wednesday, August 10, 2022 - Dave - 08-10-2022 (08-10-2022, 05:18 PM)Rich Wrote: Thanks! That's a good story Dave! I believe a 32 Ford and around a 41 Chevy. But I don't want to leave you without the rest of the story. So sometime in 1967 (I was 17 or 18) my Mom was driving her hot Camaro 350 SS with me in the passenger seat, in the right lane of a long semi-residential street with stoplights every few blocks. We stopped at one of those lights and some young punk driving an older hot rod type of car pulled up to the left of us. You've probably seen that type of car; unpainted with putty and primer showing and a square hole sloppily cut in the hood for a home-made air scoop (that to me looked like a thin and cheap tin box) to protrude. He looked over at us and made gestures indicating he would leave us in the dust when the light changed. Of course my Mom ignored him, and slowly accelerated when the light changed. I was thinking that if I was driving I'd put him in his place. We got to the next light, and now the guy was really worked up, again signaling that he wanted to leave us far behind when the light changed. My Mom stunned me by looking over at him and nodding. So there we were, us in the right lane and this young fool to our left, revving his engine to high RPMs. The light changed and he tore out of there, weaving across three of the four lanes and leaving many feet of rubber on the street. My Mom calmly turned right. She had seen the police car a few cars behind him while we were waiting at the light. He didn't see it then, but no doubt soon realized it was right behind him. With a shocked expression on my face I looked at my Mom. She shrugged her shoulders and with a bit of a self-satisfied smile that I had never seen before (or ever saw again), she said she didn't like his aggressive and disrespectful attitude. After that, and for the rest of her life, my Mom returned to her June Cleaver persona. But I suspect she always remembered that rebel moment, and that same smile emerged. RE: Wednesday, August 10, 2022 - Rich - 08-11-2022 Dave that is a great story with a great ending!!! What a hoot that must have been for you both! Kind of fits the poster you see on Facebook a lot....Don't Mess with Old People! Not saying your Mom was old but knows how to deal with people without getting hurt! Thanks for sharing, as Paul Harvey used to say, " The Rest of the Story!" RE: Wednesday, August 10, 2022 - Luv2shoot - 08-14-2022 Dave, I don't remember that story and you had me fooled. I thought you were going to say that your mom put her petal to the metal and blew him away. Great ending and lesson learned, all in a day's work for a good mom. Rich, This is dream cruise week around here with the annual Woodward Dream Cruise this Saturday. You have lot of car lovers in your area who seem to enjoy the hot rods and muscle cars. Sweet. LORELL |
