Sunday, August 7, 2022 - Don - 08-07-2022 Everyone must be super busy this weekend. Since we didn't have posts from yesterday, I'll just start a Sunday post rather than a weekend post. Hopefully someone else will pop in today. If not, well, at least we had one post for the weekend. I really wanted to go for a motorcycle ride this morning and take my cameras. Had the bike uncovered and the GPS mounted but finally came to my senses and covered it back up - my back is not quite 100% and I knew the ride I had planned would not do it any good so I did the smart thing for a change and delayed the ride until maybe later in the week. Such a nice morning too. I spent a good amount of time yesterday working on my music web page so at least I was somewhat productive. Hope all are doing well this weekend. RE: Sunday, August 7, 2022 - Quint - 08-07-2022 Good morning, Don and others, Don, that bike ride can wait. I'm over half done with Jack Lyndon Thomas's book, "Lights on the Water". He's on his was back from Alaska heading down my way and onward to Houston. Very enjoyable read. Hope your back is 100% soon. Getting ready for the county fair here. I've entered three photos and will enter some tomatoes early this week. Fair starts on Wednesday. A few days ago I took a photo of an old bus. I finally got to get a better RAW image after the tarp was removed and hood replaced. Here's what I did. RE: Sunday, August 7, 2022 - Adamphotoman - 08-07-2022 Don, Good decision.!!! Waiting is prudent. Steve, I like your image. Striking and well done. imaginative too. Nothing here. Went in to see my Dad and drop Bev off to a hotel so she could catch the early train in Saskatoon. Back home to look after the house and pups. DW will be gone 34 days to help her sister pack up the house after she lost her husband a month ago. RE: Sunday, August 7, 2022 - Rich - 08-07-2022 Don, no ride, that's the smart play! Steve, good OOB! I haven't thought about that technique for ages! We had a good time with it back on WC. Good job! That's a wicked bus! Hi Grant, Good luck with the "bachelor days!" Another shot of the motorcycle invasion! RE: Sunday, August 7, 2022 - Luv2shoot - 08-07-2022 Hi guys, I got nothing to share because I have not been taking photographs lately. I have been busy with other stuff. Recently I picked up a new hobby. Quilting. Oh dear, like I need a new hobby. I am afraid that it is interfering with my photo hobby, however. I was all set to take photos today though. Our photo club had a field trip scheduled for today. We were going to the RIVERWALK which is in Downtown DETROIT. It is a beautiful scenic walk along the Detroit River. The walk travels in the back of some beautiful huge office buildings and if you look across the river, you are looking at Canada. Unfortunately, it is all cement with little opportunity for shade and shelter. At least that is how I remember it from 10 years ago. At about 9 o'clock last night I got brave enough to call our president and tell him that I didn't think I should attend. We weren't going to get downtown until 2 pm. There were heat advisories in effect and I didn't want to be a burden to anyone or fall apart on the journey. I am so glad that I did that. Heck, right now it is 92 outside. Even this morning at about 11, it was so steamy that I had to come in after watering my flowers. Well, I wasn't the only one who thought this way, and the trip got postponed. Sorry about my lack of participation lately. Steve, good luck with the state fair. Is this year's tomato as big as the one from last year that you entered? My neighbor gave me one of her ripe tomatoes from her garden. She started her garden about 2 weeks before me. She has grown the most delicious yellow string beans. I am lucky that she has so much because she has been sharing them with me. Your OOB bus creation is a winner. I like the style and use of artistic embellishments. And good luck with your photo entries. Keep us posted on how you do. Grant, So sorry to hear about your sister-in-law. Her husband must have died young. Such sad times for all of you. Don, Are you experiencing cooler weather down there in Georgia? It is just brutal up here. I wonder how it is to ride on a bike in the heat like this. I know you have the breeze in your face but you still have a helmet on, long pants and probably a leather jacket for protection. Rich, Your town is the place to be. There is always something going on. Lucky you, so many opportunities. How is parking in your town? You never complain about finding a place to park or do you ride your bike to town? I am wondering with was written on the sign that the girl is holding. And who was looking at her sign? I got to start thinking about dinner, but not in the mood to cook today. Not in the mood to do anything. Oh dear! Stay cool and safe everyone. LORELL RE: Sunday, August 7, 2022 - Quint - 08-07-2022 Lorell, Nice to have another hobby like quilting. Good thing to take photos of. It's the county fair and I'll have some tomatoes entered. I was the only tomato entry last year so I hope there is company this time. Last year I had a larger heirloom called Neves Azorean Red. This year my Mariana's Peace heirloom is ripe now but a slightly larger Cherokee Purple may take its place since it's not fully ripe yet. I just picked about 2 pounds of string beans today. They are trimmed and we'll either eat them soon or I'll blanch and freeze them after vacuum packing. These are my bush beans and my pole ones are climbing fast and will have blossoms soon. I just made a B&W entry for another REO old vehicle. Such classics. I printed the OOB bus and matted it to 11 x14". I will give it to the owner of the vehicle. RE: Sunday, August 7, 2022 - Rich - 08-07-2022 Lorell, The parking is not too bad. I can usually find a spot close. I usually check one of the parking lots for my church. It is tucked in and not real visible unless you know it is there. I have about a 2 to 2.5 mile drive to get downtown so no bike riding for me. The lady holding the sign is selling caramel apples as a fund raiser for the historical society, $6.00 each. They are made from a secret recipe from the 50's that Woolworths here had developed. There was a crowd of people on the right but it does look like everyone is leaving! Don't worry about posting a photo, just stop in to say HI once in a while! Steve, good luck with the tomato's at he fair! I bet the owner of the bus will be pleased! Good for you! RE: Sunday, August 7, 2022 - Quint - 08-07-2022 Thanks, Rich. he should enjoy it and has a local business in town that people love to visit. The Blue Heron French Cheese Company. RE: Sunday, August 7, 2022 - Don - 08-07-2022 Good afternoon to all who have checked in. Good to see some activity today. I really like the way you did the bus photo Steve. A Winner. Very creative. Good luck with the fair. I've got 4 photos I am going to enter in the Georgia National Fair that is coming up. The downside is that we have to drive a ways to deliver the photos to the fair, then we will (of course) go back to see if any of them placed, then a third trip to pick them up. But fortunately there is a good little restaurant there, in an old historic house, where we usually have lunch so not a complete loss. Lorell, you are wise not to venture out in the heat. It is still hot here so I try to get my ride finished before noon. I wear all kinds of protective gear so it can get hot. When it is really hot it is like riding in an oven and the "breeze" does little to cool. DW used to make quilts but she hasn't done that in quite a number of years. Her main hobby now is reading. Rich, I have watched a number of YT videos about Sturgis and I think my little 650cc would be out of place among all the big V-twins there. Most appear to be Harleys. I spent a little more time on my music web page today and I think I have it like I want it, at least for a while. I was considering adding a "store" to sell the physical copies of the CD but with shipping costs around $3.50 I just didn't think it was feasible to do that. Plus I didn't really want to fool with having to pack and ship. I have sent a couple to friends in Texas but those were gifts. I did put links so that folks can listen and choose to purchase downloads but that is all handled by CDBaby, who keeps a portion of the money. Once it reaches a certain level they will deposit it in my bank account. Unfortunately, that doesn't happen very often.
RE: Sunday, August 7, 2022 - damar - 08-07-2022 Hi Everyone..yes, busy weekend (Saturday was) Don, I hope your back is better soon. Quint, your photo of the bus is going to be a winner! That OOB looks GREAT I can't believe how good the bus looks with the bonnet back on! That photo could be an album cover! I like it! I hope your 'maters win a ribbon! That one you posted the other day looked great! Rich, the invasion looks like fun! Cool photo with the corn palace behind all the bikes. Was the woman to the left holding a sign? Hi Lorell! Glad to hear you are having fun with your new hobby! Its HOT here too and we went to the botanical garden but spent most of our time there inside the conservatory with the AC and fans! It doesn't cool off in GA sometimes till Oct/Nov and we can still have hot days beyond. I remember 1983, it was 75 degrees on Christmas Day. We have a LONG summer season and a super short "winter" season. Summer is NOT my favorite season. State Botanical Gardens Nothing great, just pretty color (specimen shots are not my favorite so I don't try to "work the subject") These are just snapshots. |
