Friday July 29, 2022 - Don - 07-29-2022 Another week almost gone but at least the weekend is here. Hope you have some fun activity planned! DW found out the local library was having a book sale so we had to go check it out. I also wanted to see there they hung my photo that I had entered in the last Artist Guild contest but we never could find it. Someone from the library is supposed to email me where it is though. But anyway, I bought a few books while there: "Writing Better Lyrics, the essential guide to powerful songwriting", "The new Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain", "Mexico Stories" (in English), and "Paul McCartney". I also saw a book called "Learn Photography in one Weekend". So I have wasted all these years learning when I could have had that book and learned in a weekend. Dang. The Drawing on the Right Side I have heard of for years but never bought, but I figured for 50 cents I could check it out. Might go for a short ride a bit later before it gets too hot, although it is already 78 and barely 0630. So I have wasted all these years learning when I could have had that book and learned in a weekend. We all could say the same thing! But I find that I am still learning so much about becoming a good photographer especially since there are now so many different genres to it and how it has evolved. I think that is what has kept me interested in it. I know you are just kidding, but I got to say, your statement brought a smile to my face. Thanks for that, Don, and thanks for starting Friday's thread. Here's one of the genres of photography that I wish to get better at, street photography. This will probably be shared in for my August Photo Club, since that is one of the topics, Street Photography. Rich, I can't wait to watch your Sturgis Live Web Cams. I would love to be there taking photographs. You would probably see a lot images like this one. Going to look at used car today. Almost bought something on Wednesday, after looking at one a lot on Tuesday. Called the next day at noon after sleeping on it and was told that it sold in the morning. Just wasn't meant to be. Hope we have better luck today. lorell RE: Friday July 29, 2022 - Quint - 07-29-2022 Hello Don & Lorell, I just got home from the YMCA and lap swimming. Then lunch in town. Home now and it's a pleasant 74 degrees at 1pm. Turned up the volume while listening to a favorite old group "Three Dog Night". Can't help but sing along. Good luck on finding a car, Lorell. That photo is the most colorful black and white I've seen. Next week I'm scheduled to go to a lavender farm and do some photos of the shop and plants. Maybe the owner too. We'll see what comes from it. RE: Friday July 29, 2022 - damar - 07-30-2022 Late to the game, but greetings anyway! I have Drawing on the right side of the brain” and if you follow through I can tell you it really works. You got a deal on it! That’s a cool photo Lorell! Street shooting is the area I am most interested in and so unable to o without having to travel into a metro area. The best we can do is go to events and shows for candid captures. Quint is rockin’ out! Wish it was in the 70s here. It’s so dern hot you don’t want to go outside. Pulled my cuke vines out yesterday. RE: Friday July 29, 2022 - Dave - 07-30-2022 Don, I used to have the original "Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain", and if my deteriorating memory is correct I found it quite interesting and helpful. Very nice photo, Lorell. We bought a new car a little over a year ago - it's a Toyota hybrid. Considering the high gas prices (and that the Big Oil companies will use any excuse to continue raising prices), it was a good choice at the right time. (We would have bought a plug-in, but the range of these at that time was a little too low.) And cutting down on our carbon footprint was a big factor in our decision. Since you're in Motor City, you may prefer American made cars; if so the various US automakers keep expanding their hybrid and plug-in options, and the range of either type has increased considerably. Quint: Three Dog Night! I have a 50+ year old album or two, but nothing to play it/them on. Still, I remember "One Is the Loneliest Number", "Eli's Coming", "Shambala", "Celebrate", and my favorite - "Joy to the World". Go Jeremiah! damar, it's a very pleasant 63F here at the moment, but it's only 06:15. Will probably peak at 83F in the shade and 88F or higher in the sun, plus high humidity by SoCal standards. I have some gardening chores to do (adding soil acidifier to a bunch of pots and sowing more seeds, in hopes that it's not too late in the year). So I'd better get this done early in the day. RE: Friday July 29, 2022 - Quint - 07-30-2022 Dave, those are great tunes and others you didn't mention like "Never Been to Spain", "Mamma Told Me Not to Come", and "Easy to be Hard" top the list. I recently purchased a CD with 12 of all the ones we mentioned. Our temps at home have been in the 70's and beans are blossoming and cukes are laying over and starting to spead out. Our cool, wet, conditions have left and now it's grow time. A few miles inland over the coast range mountains temps have been 100. |
