Sat/Sun July 9/10 - Don - 07-09-2022

Welcome to the weekend all. I thought I would start with a little color - spotted these when I went out to check the rain gauge this morning. Images appear a bit soft here, but they were pretty sharp out of LR.

In other news, bought more peaches than we could eat, so I found our food dehydrator and tried my hand at drying some of them. Worked pretty well. I also dried some chili peppers. This morning I tried roasting some Serrano peppers in the oven which seemed to work OK.

RE: Sat/Sun July 9/10 - Dave - 07-09-2022

Thanks for starting our weekend Daily, Don - and with such exquisite photos. I appreciate that they appear to be 3 variations on the same basic composition. Very nice.

Following your botanical lead, here is a shot of one of my favorite and most challenging subjects - the African Iris (and I think this is a misnomer because if I remember correctly, it's not an iris)...

RE: Sat/Sun July 9/10 - Man From Ironbark - 07-09-2022

Well, WIKI says.
"Dietes iridioides, commonly named African iris, fortnight lily, and morea iris, is a species of plant in the family Iridaceae that is native to Southern Africa. ". Thus it is a look alike iris.

The whole taxonomy needs revision due to the mistaken naming in the first place.

RE: Sat/Sun July 9/10 - Don - 07-10-2022

Thanks for following up with another flower Dave and MFI for clarifying a bit on the naming.

Looks like it is going to be another slow weekend in here.

DW is on the road tomorrow to spend a week with DD to help with the 4 kiddies while her hubby is "on assignment" out of town. With 4 kids DD can use the help as they all go in different directions with activities, not including the 2 year old which has its own issues. Smile Well, not really issues but constant attention is required for the youngest. Like most 2 year olds he can be a hand full sometime.

Hope all are having a good weekend with whatever you are doing.

Nice flowers.
Sunrise turned into a rainbow.

RE: Sat/Sun July 9/10 - Dreamin - 07-10-2022

Happy Weekend, all!  Been a busy one for me, as well.....Trying to run a water line to my daughter's garden, it's been so dry....but then it rained all day saturday, off and on, so was a good day!!
Don, very nice shots of the flowers..do tell, what is that first one? I have never seen anything like it. I love yellows and greens.
Dave, I tried planting that "faux iris" and it bloomed one season, then was gone, Maybe you have to dig them up like  you do gladiolus in my area.....Your shot is well composed, love the backdrop.
Peter, you always have the answer!  I'm known for trying to figure things out, to the chagrin of my children....
Grant, that's a beautiful double rainbow!! Great catch! Did you find the pot of gold?
Well, as I was leaving my house, and on the corner, I saw these two fawns romping in the sunshine!  I had to smile! I only had my phone with me, so not a great shot!  But twins are always fun to see (except to the farmers, who always get crop damage from too many deer!!  It's funny. During deer hunting season, they are nowhere to be found. After the season, you can see herds, up to 25 at a time, eating the new soybean growth......they know......

RE: Sat/Sun July 9/10 - Luv2shoot - 07-10-2022

Good morning and blessings to all, Don, Peter, Dave, Grant, Natalie, ...,  on this fine Sunday.

Well, I am finally done with my photo editing job, which has kept me busy for the last three weeks.  Whew, I am so glad that is over.  I edited 161 photos in the last batch and my eyes felt like they were falling out of my head.  I was so happy when I went into the photographer's studio to drop off my work and she told me that "we were done".  That was music to my ears.  I am not sure I would sign up to do that again, but I did make enough cash to buy myself a little present. It was ironic that the cost of the item was practically equal to the amount that I made. So, I figured, it was meant to be. I will talk about that in a few days, but for now, it is good to be back, and apologize for my infrequent visits.

Thanks for starting the weekend thread for us, Don, with the lovely and colorful blooms.   It sounds like you will be doing a lot of cooking for yourself for a while.  You all sound like you are accomplished cooks, so I am not worried about you.  Maybe if I didn't LOVE cooking so much, my husband would have done more of it for us.  But I have him spoiled.

This is a bright and cheerful thread. Grant, your rainbow brings a smile to my face. It is nice that you can see so much sky.  We have so many trees here that such a sight is rare.

I need to go read all the threads from this past week to catch up on things.  I have not taken any photos for quite some time.  As a matter of fact, I did not participate in this months club's photo shoot which occurred yesterday.  There was the annual air show at Selfridge National Guard Airforce base.  The club found a spot, not on the base but nearby, wear one could get good photos of the planes flying over as they approach the grandstands.  I just couldn't get up the energy to sit for several hours in the sun to get shots of planes flying overhead.  There is not much of an opportunity for "storytelling ", creating a mood,  etc., or setting up shots from various perspectives.  The idea did not appeal to me.  So, I passed.

So, I need to start photographing again.
In the meantime, I will share a photo that my daughter sent me which is a good follow-up of Natalie's twins.
How about some triplets? My daughter took this shot as she exited the front door of her house and walked to get into her car.
She lives in a nice neighborhood but only 5 houses off of a BUSY EXPRESSWAY.  Seeing deer in her front or backyard is not an unusual occurrence, but seeing triplets definitely is!

EDIT after looking at this week's dailies:

 Natalie,
Referring to last Tuesday's thread, you mentioned Lemon Poppy seed bread.  Was that another one of the zucchini bread variations?  If you could share a copy of that recipe, I would appreciate it.

Rich, The Derecho...I want one.  And only $34,000!  Unfortunately, I am not cool enough to drive. it.

Dave, watching Pippin sleep reminds me of how comforting and stress relieving it is just to watch a dog sleep. Often times, our Ella has her tongue hanging out of her mouth when she is totally exhausted and knocked out.  I would imagine that the heat takes a lot out of Pippin with all of the silky hair that he has.

Peter, like Natalie said in Thursday's thread, "you are a wise man with great advice".  I especially like this one THAT YOU SAID: "Otherwise you are going to waste a lot of money on a pile of disappointment."  Boy, that could apply to many things!  I will be adding that one to my quote collection.

Steve, you live in such a beautiful area.  You must really love it.

RE: Sat/Sun July 9/10 - Don - 07-10-2022

Good afternoon all. No rain today but threat of rain all next week. I had hoped to take at least one long bike ride while DW is away. There is a scenic drive just north and west of us, over in Alabama that I have been wanting to ride. I may try it anyway if the weather doesn't look too bad.

Natalie, those flowers are Canna Lilies according to DW. I like the yellow as well.

I harvested a few red chili peppers this morning, along with 1 Serrano, washed, cut them long ways to remove the seeds, and put them in a 450 degree oven for 10 minutes (5 min on each side). I did a few Serranos yesterday as well. Once they came out of the oven, I had myself a tasty snack. Good flavor and the heat was tolerable. The other peppers that I am growing taste a lot like a bell pepper, so I either eat without any preparation or chop up to freeze. DW likes to use bell peppers in omelettes sometime, so we will use those peppers that way.

Nice rainbow Grant. And the two photos of the fawns are great.

I did get the bike washed this afternoon.

RE: Sat/Sun July 9/10 - Dreamin - 07-10-2022

Awwww, Lorell, three of a kind beats a pair!! Wonderful to see triplets! Deer are so beautiful....and found so close to all those houses?
Don, Bike looks great ! I have never been fond of riding on them....too dangerous for me...I want to be surrounded by metal....but I can appreciate your freedom!!

Speaking of motorbikes. Was recruited to drive a mate's car home so he could ride the new bike. A five hour trip there and back. The bike? A KTM 1290 Super Adventura.
