Sat & Sun. June 4 - June 5 2022 - Dave - 06-04-2022 Wishing you all a happy, healthy, and productive weekend. One of my potted Lemon Cucumber plants in front of dark ornamental grass and a small grey rock... RE: Sat & Sun. June 4 - June 5 2022 - Luv2shoot - 06-04-2022 Delicate and graceful. What will the cakes taste like? Glad we have a weekend thread started. Thanks Dave. RE: Sat & Sun. June 4 - June 5 2022 - Man From Ironbark - 06-04-2022 Sorry for not starting a Friday thread. Lemon cucumbers. A new one for me. Ah. I see it is simply one of the apple cucumbers that is yellow. Probably not suitable to arid conditions. RE: Sat & Sun. June 4 - June 5 2022 - Quint - 06-04-2022 Dave, Nice young fellow reaching up with blossoms. I have some in hanging baskets that are getting tall but no blossoms yet. I'm getting ready to move a dozen young pickling cukes out to the raised bed soon. I'll place covers on them to protect them from birds. Hi, Lorell & MFIB RE: Sat & Sun. June 4 - June 5 2022 - Luv2shoot - 06-04-2022 Hey there, Steve and Peter, thanks for joining us in the weekender. Speaking of BIRDS, there was a robin nest that was built in my neighbor's yard between a lilac bush and our fence. Some of their wild bushes grow through to our side and as I was tearing them down from OUR side of the fence, I spotted a nest with three perfect blue eggs. We suspected it was a ROBIN's nest but were surprised that it was only about 4 feet off of the ground. One day, a dead baby robin was lying in our driveway, no feathers, not even any fuzz. But for the last two weeks now, I have been carefully peeking to see the remaining two babies growing. I did not want to scare them out of their nests so after taking these photos on May 31st, I kept my distance other than a careful peek now and then. I just now grabbed my camera and decided that I was going to attempt to get an updated photo to share with you but upon making it through the heavy greenery that has now taken over making it impossible to take a shot unless moving stems and leaves aside, I discovered that the duo had now embarked on a brand new world. It is just as well, I would have felt terrible if I had scared them prematurely from their nest. I love the first image with the one sleeping looks like baby Einstein with its mouth open ready for a tasty juicy worm to wake him up. RE: Sat & Sun. June 4 - June 5 2022 - Quint - 06-04-2022 Those are incredibly darling pictures, Lorell. RE: Sat & Sun. June 4 - June 5 2022 - Luv2shoot - 06-04-2022 Wow, thanks, Steve. RE: Sat & Sun. June 4 - June 5 2022 - Dave - 06-05-2022 Lorell, the lemon cukes taste like cucumber, but it seems to me that there is not the occasional bitter taste that other cucumbers can have. And I could swear I detect a faint taste of lemon, but that's probably just my imagination. Lemon cukes are round and the size of a tennis ball at best (mine are usually smaller). I do like the graceful curves of the tendrils. (Darwin discussed plant tendrils and other methods by which some plants can climb in his Origin of the Species. Hi MFI and Quint. Added: Lorell, good story about the robins, illustrated with wonderful photos. RE: Sat & Sun. June 4 - June 5 2022 - Dave - 06-05-2022 I really enjoy the variety of colors of developing berries; this from a plant my wife put into a tall pot in the inner yard... RE: Sat & Sun. June 4 - June 5 2022 - Luv2shoot - 06-05-2022 Well Dave, if you enjoy the many color or developing berries, then I hope you enjoy my Abstract/Manipulated/Slider-Pusher creation for this Sunday. Someone suggested that I try Deep Dream Generator. I thought it was a free program, but it is not. THere is a monthly subscription fee of $20 which I think is rather steep. They allow you to try it out for free though and I know why. It is very addicting! I think if I had a lot of time to devote to playing, I might try using it for a month or two. But I am too busy working outside as well as inside right now with the change of seasons. But here is one that I just finished. |
