Good day or evening.

An inexpensive but attractive flowering plant my wife bought from Costco...

Polyanthemus. I used to plant these along my front path in the days when water was cheap. They are a delight in flower. Many different colours.

My week has been a bit topsy turvey what with the other half having a fall and breaking her femur. Transported 200km for surgery to repair. Then after a couple of days there the hospital wanted her bed and there was no bed her in the local hospital so they shipped her to a hospital half way between. It isn't as far to drive to visit and support her but all this is going on. in 46˚C heatwave lasting eight days where the minimum temperatures are around 34˚C. Maybe in a day or a week, they'll find a bed here and ship her home. Hopefully.

Very colorful flower, Dave.

Good grief, 46C is HOT. That's about how hot it got when I was in the middle east. It would already be about 37C before the sun came up. And 34C doesn't afford much relief either. And I hope that they do find a bed for her soon. Got to be tough. One of our biggest fears is falling and breaking a bone, especially in the leg.

Peter...Yikes! That is hot! Sorry to hear of you wifes fall. That is always a concern as we age. Quite a long ride to get to the surgery center.

Dave, beautiful flowers!
Good to see you Don!

46˚C is a little better than 49.8˚C which was experienced in several towns across three states. Temperatures above 50˚C and up to 54˚C out in the central parts of Australia are funnelled to south eastern parts of this big island.

Basically for a number of years now, the Wagga base hospital has all the specialists and any broken bone has to go there to be fixed. Whereas when I was younger, all that was done in our local hospital which has lost so much to the bigger centre.

MFI,

Unimaginable and brutal heat.

And my best wishes to your wife for the fastest possible recovery.

Thanks Rich. But credit for the flowers goes to Mother Nature. I did need to put a lot of work into the image, though. That's because the red petals and the green leaves were about the same value and this made the photo initially lacking in contrast (which seems to be a common problem photo has primarily reds and greens) as can be seen in a straight conversion to grayscale...

So I had to tweak both brightness and value contrast in selected areas, sort of like this second grayscale conversion indicates...

Anyway, it got to 46˚ here again today. It will be similar tomorrow but we are promised a cool change to mid 30's on Sunday.

and from today's news:
For the eighth consecutive day, Australia's south-east inland will bake in temperatures well above 40 degrees Celsius.

Today's forecasts include maximums of up to 49C, following a high of 50.0C at Port Augusta on Friday — the farthest south 50C has been officially recorded in Australia.

The hottest air will shift back to western NSW today, and the odd record could again tumble, most likely in Ivanhoe where 49C is predicted.

But a long-awaited southerly change has now arrived on the southern coastline, and the cooler air will head north and finally erode the record heatwave during the next 48 hours.

> Bring on tomorrow.
