Friday, March 21, 2025 - Dave - 03-21-2025 It's 1:30 AM here and since I'm still awake I might as well start a Friday Daily. Some of you may recall that one of my favorite roses to photograph is the Ketchup & Mustard Rose. The only place I've seen them was in the front yard of late neighbor and friend Ron, but the current residents of Ron's former home have done absolutely nothing to care for Ron's roses; The last time I saw a K & M rose blossom was nearly 2 years ago. Until yesterday... RE: Friday, March 21, 2025 - Don - 03-21-2025 Good morning Dave. Hope you were able to get some sleep. Very nice image of the rose. Was that in the neighbor's yard? Hope all have been doing well. I check in every so often to see how things are going, but I haven't really been doing any photography lately, at least until the past few days as we were on a short camping trip. The state park where we camped has the longest covered bridge in the state, and it is still in use. There were quite a number of cars that utilized it while we were there, including us. Anyway, here is one of several photos I took while there. RE: Friday, March 21, 2025 - Dave - 03-21-2025 Hey Don, I really like your covered bridge photo: the warm color of the bridge and its reflection work well vs the green of the foliage and the blue sky. And it proves that, in the right hands, an image can break the cardinal rule that says you should never compose your image into equal halves. Thanks for your comments about my rose photo. Yes, it was taken of a neighbor's yard. I got lucky - the photo needed little processing; just cropping for composition and sharpening to offset the usual softening that happens when saving as a JPG. The colors weren't adjusted at all. BTW, I'm no longer getting email notifications of new threads or posts. RE: Friday, March 21, 2025 - Man From Ironbark - 03-21-2025 Reflections tend to bend the rules a fair bit. Don has worked that magic well. Both lovely photos. I do love the deep tones of orange/red against the greens. Perhaps I should try using my right hand with the camera a bit more. Here's some harlequin misteltoe. Taken recently. ![]() Here's another way to kind of break the rules. From my archives. ![]() Was playing about with some of the settings on the Olympus TG-1. One day back in 2015. ![]()
RE: Friday, March 21, 2025 - Dave - 03-21-2025 Thanks MFI. Lovely colors and shapes in your Harlequin Mistletoe photo, and the other is very cool; different and quite intriguing. Well done on both. RE: Friday, March 21, 2025 - Dave - 03-21-2025 Beautiful reflections. I'm reminded of a few shots I took in a remote area of the wetlands many years ago before our long drought gathered strength. Now that area has no water at all. RE: Friday, March 21, 2025 - Man From Ironbark - 03-21-2025 Those shots were from up in the subtropics. Where I live it is semi-arid though it is well supplemented with irrigation water from the Murrumbidgee. This when I was living amongst rice paddy.
RE: Friday, March 21, 2025 - Don - 03-22-2025 Those are some great reflection photos, MFIB. RE: Friday, March 21, 2025 - Man From Ironbark - 03-23-2025 Thanks Don.
