Weekender 1/2 Feb. 2025 - Man From Ironbark - 02-01-2025

Started this post because no one seems to be starting many posts.

Haven't done a lot of photography lately. Though I did catch a couple of shots of birds using a sprinkler to bathe and drink.

You can vaguely discern two birds behind the sprinkler.

Fun shots of beautifully colored creatures, MFI.

And good on you for aiding the birds in what I assume are hot and dry conditions.

My friend Sandy and I spent 3 hours walking around part of Huntington Beach's large Central Park yesterday morning. I took nearly 400 photos, deleted all but 65 during my initial triage, and probably less than half of them will be worth processing. I did get to add a new species to my list of birds photographed - the small and stocky Green Heron. Also managed to catch a White-faced Ibis successfully snagging a crayfish. Lots of white pelicans in the water and the morning light was ideal for avoiding blown-out whites. Several other birds including a Cooper's hawk and the lovely little Yellowthroat. And a number of floral shots that look promising. I'm eager to process some of these but that will have to wait:. I ordered the 2025 version of Photoshop Elements and received an email that was to include a link to download the installation files. But it was a dead link and the seller hasn't yet sent me a link that actually works.

My hours walking around the park plus several walks around my neighborhood added up to 12,024 steps (about 5.25 miles at my usual stride length) - a new personal best for me.

Peter, luv 'em. What fun for the birds!

Dave, quite a hike! Good for you! I hope you get the link! My radar is up on that one! I got stuck with a winter coat that doesn't fit. Cost to much to send it back to Canada...$54. My own fault though as it is a company that sells to the Asian Market ( not indicated on the website) and I didn't check the size chart.

Here are some colorful balloons from New Mexico.

Yes Dave, it is very dry. Have received no rain this year and February is usually the hottest and driest month for us. So the prognosis isn't good for a lot of southern Australia. There are fires that have been burning since before Christmas. In the north eastern parts of Australia they are having record rains and floods. The tropical monsoon is late. The latest in many decades.

Love the balloons. What was the event, Rich?

Thanks Peter! Sounds like you are in the same boat we are. Normally we have several inches of snow on the ground and sometimes measured in feet. This year nothing. The ground has no snow. We have had maybe 2 inches since winter began. It concerns me that you are dry too.

Great photo, Rich - the energy and the colors are off the charts.

MFI, I know what your area is dealing with. The recent SoCal area wildfires were devastating, and we're far from the peak fire season. Until last week we hadn't had any measurable rain at all in this reporting season.

Well, after LOTS of hurdles I am again able to edit my images. The unbelievable ways that first Walmart then Adobe screwed up my orders of PSE 2025 are too long of a story for here (and I still am out $100 for something I didn't receive and what I did get is not what I ordered).

Anyway, here's the first photo I've edited from yesterday's outing to my city's large Central Park. It's a White-faced Ibis that snagged a crawdad...

Hope you do chase it up and get what you paid for, Dave.
Good to see that you are able to edit your images though.
That's a great catch you caught there. Wink

Thank you MFI.

We were pretty close to the Ibis but didn't seem wary. It was nice to catch it successfully snagging some food.

Quick summary of my adventure getting Photoshop:

I wanted Photoshop Elements 2025. I hate that Adobe offers install discs - it's all download and the customer is forced into a subscription or a limited-term license.
So on Friday I ordered the download of PSE 2025 from Walmart, and quickly got an email from Walmart that was to have supplied a link to where I could download the install exe file. But that was a dead link, so I called Walmart and explained the situation, expecting too resend me that mail with a working link. The guy said they would start to get me my product.

Nothing happened so yesterday I called Walmart again. It was darn near impossible to reach a live person, but I finally got through to somebody and explained that I didn't get the product and had no confidence in them helping, and said I had just ordered it direct from Adobe and asked WalMart to refund my $99.99. The guy said there are no refunds on downloaded products. I said that makes sense but I was not able to download. He kept refusing to initiate a refund so I asked to speak to a supervisor, which left me on hold for over an hour. When the supervisor repeated the "no refunds on downloads" policy I got mad and raised my voice a bit. He added that I should contact my bank and have them dispute the Walmart charge. My voice got even louder but eventually he agreed too "make an exception" and initiate a refund. I asked when to expect my $99.99 back and he said 6 to 8 business days. Interesting that they charge my debit card almost instantly but are much slower processing refunds.

As to ordering from Adobe, that appeared to go well. They quickly emailed my details of my purchase and directed me to where I could download the install files. I proceeded and got PSE installed, but instead of PSE 2025 it was PSE 2021. So today I'll call Adobe and have them get me what I paid for. I won't be surprised if I run into the same sorts of hurdles with them.

A typical Aussie answer; bugger.

I believe it relays the sense of disappointment and helplessness.
