Monday, Dec 2, 2024 - Don - 12-02-2024

Well, still having issues with the DS's car. I think now it may have a parasitic draw. Bottom line is, when we get it corrected, I'm going to trade it for something else. He's had nothing but trouble with that car.

There were lots of beautiful buildings in Europe, but some amusing ones as well. This one caught my eye - I classify these types of images as snapshots or travel photos.

A fun facade you captured there, Don.

Two days ago I took a couple of photos of colorful ivy leaves on a wrought iron gate. One was acceptably sharp, but another was so out of focus that it showed nothing but round shapes of soft color. I got it into my mind that maybe I could the versions together to produce an image with an interesting mix of bright and strong colors and softer, less intense glowing colors. This turned out to be quite a challenge.

I opened both images in Photoshop then tried about a dozen times to resize the blurred one to match the sharper one, finally getting it right.

Then a crop for better composition and a final round of sharpening here and there.

It was a lot of work, and turned out  only partly successful...

There was a much easier way - I should have tried one of the quite simple yet effective ways to produce what's called "The Gorton Look".

Nice Captures both Don and Dave,

Baby it is cold outside.

Isn't -40 the only place where ˚F and ˚C are the same?

Hey there.
Boy, Grant, your view of the wintery scene chills my bones.  So, far, we have been lucky to miss all he snow that has been spreading across this country. On the other hand, just last week, a rose bloomed outside our side door!  Yikes, that has never happened since I have been in this house for 43 years.

Dave, your layering of the two images turned out rather well.  It simple terms you created a shallow DOF, but I am sure the shades and hues of the shadows were different in the blurred images which added to the contrast and originality. I like the inclusion of the perfectly straight wrought iron post that separates the composition into thirds.  It adds something special to the image.

Don, I like the storefront, even though BACKEREI is not in English, nor are the words on the chalkboard (from what I can see), the words written across the top of the window are in English.  They are TRADITION and SINCE 1936.

Well, after ove a month, I got my sewing machine plugged in and started finishing a PREMIE quilt that I had worked on before putting everything away prior to my hip surgery.  I am tired of just sitting around, watching TV, working on CRYPTOGRAM puzzles, playing Canasta and Euchre on line, etc.,

I had also done some Zentangling, making a card for a bridal show and one for the several thank you's that I needed to send out to my dear thoughtful friends.  I finally got them mailed yesterday and feel much better having finished that.

Tonight (it is Tuesday now), our photo club has been invited by a neighboring photo club to join them in a ZOOM presentation. I looked at the photographer's images and they are very good, but most of them are landscapes of some spectacular places.  although I am not into that genre of photography, I am sure he will have tips that can be used or adapted to other types of photography.  It starts at 7 pm.

Here is the name of the photographer: DAVID SWINDLER.
You can find him ONLINE.

Thanks Grant. That's a beautiful image. (But I'm glad I no longer live in winters like that.)

Hi Lorell. I imagine you're hating the enforced inactivity. Thanks for your reaction to my Ivy image. (BTW, I'm gratified that you commented on the vertical line of the wrought iron post because I also feel it's important to the image.)

And how about those Lions? Big game this week (vs Green Bay) and an even tougher one next week (vs Buffalo), then two they should win easily, and finishing with another big game vs Minnesota. But I predict that Detroit will win all of them to finish as the NFC's #1 seed, earning a first round bye and home field advantage in the playoffs. I pick the Lions to make the Super Bowl against either the Chiefs (but they're not looking as unbeatable lately) or Buffalo. A Detroit vs Buffalo Super Bowl sure looks like a great match. If I had to predict a winner now, I'd go with Detroit winning a very close game.

It is Wednesday here but nevermind. If one looks behind the ibis, it looks like the spoonbill lost its leg. Wink

Good one, Peter. It looks like those two birds are buddies.

Don, no doubt what is sold there! Love it!

Dave, I think it was successful. Too bad the top center red leave is soft. Will check out the Groton effect. i agree with Lorell on the post. Just off center is perfect!

Grant, cold here too but no snow yet!

Lorell, good to see you are getting restless! A good sign! For me 6 weeks without driving was agony! Had to rely on friends to get me to the Dr's.

Peter, yes it does! Good capture! Looks like you have a bird sanctuary there, nice!
