Don, I like your adjustments and agree that the abandoned shot may not make the cut.
I also see why you would want to print them before submitting them. Every monitor is different and things do not look the same when printed and not having a glowing screen behind the images to lighten them. And then, it all depends on where you get them printed and how their printers are calibrated. Oh dear, it creates a real challenge.
One of our club members has a photo in the DETROIT NEWS (one of our two major newspapers) photography competition. His image is one of 15 in the final round. Now it is time for the public to vote. It is pretty exciting, the competition is really steep!
