RE: Tuesday July 26, 2022 - Quint - 07-26-2022

Don, Went to Great Lakes in winter of 68, drill team. Sonar school Key West but changed to OT (ocean systems tech) Tom Clancy stuff. Got out OT2, finished college GI Bill, 3 years Nat Guard combat engineers, 25 years Coast Guard Aux. My daughter did a similar route. Coast Guard, GI Bill, engineer degree NC State.

Patty, I just took this picture of my pretty little Savage O/U.

You were 2 years behind me to Great Lakes. I went summer of '66, assigned to NAS JAX weapons station, applied to Air Traffic Control "A" school, on to Mayport Naval Station for almost 2 years, went back to Ground Control Radar school and finished my last year in Sigonella, Sicily. Started in Computer Science at a local Jr. College near Birmingham, AL, got a ASCS there but UAB did not offer CS degrees at the time, so I changed to Engineering. The way I got in the Navy Reserve was I was looking for a part time job and called the various services. I got into the Navy Reserve as E6 (ET1) because of my EE degree and later got a commission as an Engineering Duty Officer. Stayed on until retirement and left as an O5.  My military career in a nutshell.

Quint that is a pretty little rifle! I love wood stocks. Most of the family prefer their tactical composite stocks. Not me.
I got my Remington .223 single shot/bolt action in wood, much to my sons disappointment! It's a carbine cause I'm only 5'2" on a good day.
Your service to our country is commendable. It sounds a bit hollow these days to say "we thank you for your service", but
most of us really mean it.
You too, Don. Impressive service career.
Thanks!

My Rem7 Carbine w/ Bushnell Dusk to Dawn Scope.

It looks weird because I left the front and rear sights on because I didn't want to leave the tiny screw holes open
and I wasn't sure I was going to keep the scope on it. It's accurate without the scope.
The scope sight actually clears the iron sights with no problem.

From my archive; a P&S pocket camera photo

Patty,
Nice looking clean bolt action. Nice all around caliber too. I got rid of a few like my 220 Swift and a model 92 saddle ring carbine Winchester 44-40. Still have my 30-06 1903 Springfield with peep sights Nice custom stock. Used to drill with the military version with bayonet.

Don, I just turned 21 while in boot camp. Sure was nice to hit the strip for a cold one after returning for BE&E school. Nice job you did staying in the reserve.

Hi Quint,
What year is your Springfield? I wouldn't mind having one, (collection/heirloom) but they are probably way too heavy for me for practical
taget shooting.
I was given an M1 Carbine with oiler, sling and bayonet for Christmas. That is my top semi.
The .223 bolt is my top relaxation plinking for pleasure.

First time on the range with it. (Christmas Day)
I had just sighted it in.
It was cold and muddy.
(fingerless gloves: what's the point?)

The standard M1 Carbine magazine is 15r

I'll check the 03 Springfield. It's not an A3. I'll get a picture of it to you.
My only semi is a JC Higgins 22. Tube magazine & 4X scope. Nice solid little gun but I always preferred the Savage  22/410.
I almost bought a Rem 40XB 222 target/varmint rifle back in the 70's. Hard to find the straight 222 anymore.
I got rid of all my reloading and bullet molding equipment. Was fun. I kind of miss shooting though. Camera now.

RE: Tuesday July 26, 2022 - damar - 07-27-2022

will watch for your JC a Higgins pic! Are you in an area where you can target shoot in your back yard?
DH does Re-loading, but we haven’t been burning up any ammo lately so alls quite on that work bench.
My son has a membership for an outdoor range gun club. We should tag along the next time.
Those Rem 222s are pretty. I never heard of them!
I’ll have more pics tomorrow too, but Don needs to post a few too!
Those worst paper weight in my collection is my Walther P22…I wouldn’t even want to sell it to any nice person. Serial Jammer.
