RE: Wednesday, July 20, 2022 - Dreamin - 07-20-2022 Never plant just one! I did that last year with zucchini, and got nothing. Squash vine borers got it. This year I planted 5, and am over run with them. LOL! I also bought a four pack of cukes, and each one had two or three. I also left them.....am over run with cukes......LOLO! But we cut the deformed or over ripe ones up and feed them to my daughter's chickens.....Or put in the compost pile ....Nothing goes to waste.... RE: Wednesday, July 20, 2022 - damar - 07-20-2022 Yeah they may need more than one plant for pollination. I just need a better location where they aren’t trying to strangle the peppers. I already got Squash vine borers and I’m going to harvest what I can that is ruined and pull them out. If I can’t have cuckes without boreholes, theybare not getting anymore. I used to compost, but I don’t like attracting yellow jackets, roaches, mice and skunks. I don’t have a source of animal manure to speed up composting. So it would just rot and get nasty. Animal manure raises the temperature and makes it work faster. Canning is a lot of work! My in-laws experienced the great depression and lived on a ranch far from town. They did a lot of canning, even beef! |
