Hi Natalie; I hope it was a good 4th for you.

That's a creative flag photo, and it's much better than mine. Nice use of a texture layer. The flag in my photo was one of those small cheap ones that realtors like put in all the yards of my neighborhood on Memorial Day and July 4th. Your menu sounds good.

Hi Rich. I like your menu too (although I'd go with cherry, peach, or especially rhubarb pie). Those are three very good photos.

Quint - yes a bald eagle with old glory in the background is always appropriate. Nice one. I've never heard of the elephant ear pepper; yours looks extremely healthy.

damar, I'll try to remember to take a shot of the lemon cuke when I cut it.It is tasty; tastes like (big surprise) a cucumber - the same sort of clean refreshing flavor as other cukes.the skin is edible, but not very good; a little tough and chewy, and then there are those slightly protruding black nubs. That's a fine cucumber, and I'm amazed it grew so fast.

Well, some of the neighbors have started with the firecrackers and fireworks, so we're trying to keep Pippin calm. Our city legalized the sale and use of (actually it was a proposition on the ballot), and of course the fireworks industry threw money into advertising and bough the result they wanted.4 or 5 years ago. Bad decision IMO but all the city cared about was the $$. Back when the ballot proposal was announced I asked every city council member: "So you are encouraging the use of incendiary devices by inexperienced people, on a day that typically involves drinking - what could possibly go wrong?" Anyway, it's permitted only on July 4th, between noon and 10:00 PM, but has been going on for days and in the past has lasted until 2:00 AM. I just don't get why some people never outgrow the childish fascination of making loud noises, and I don't see anything particularly patriotic about breaking city codes, disturbing neighbors, and terrifying dogs and cats. Maybe I've become a grumpy old man.

Hi Dave,
Our dog was terrorized all weekend after dark with all the "celebrations".
I get it--people want to entertain their kids etc. Our city doesn't do an annual fireworks display so
that may contribute to the excess noise coming from residences.
It would be nice if it was just for one hour on the actual 4th. (it was all weekend after dark)
We get people shooting fireworks here on Christmas eve and new years eve as well.
My neighbor said "our "freedom" ends where we intrude on others".
Yes, something like that!
