About 1:30 AM here; I'm trying to stay awake for the final 2 group games (these in Group H) of the World Cup. Germany (#2) plays South Korea (#17). Germany has under-performed almost as badly as USA but still should have no problem winning this game. The other game has surprising Colombia (#25) vs Morocco (#72). Colombia should beat Morocco by multiple goals, and assuming they do win, they will be #1 in the group, with Germany as #2. Colombia has already exceeded expectations, and I think they could well win their first knock-out phase game (vs equally over-achieving Jamaica (#43) before falling to a better team in the second knock-out game.

Scouring through my archives for a photo to post, I came across this one from October 2019. After checking my bird books, I think it's a Say's Phoebe, probably still a juvenile. If so, this is the only one I've ever seen; they are rarely found intensely suburban areas.

Good morning, Dave, I hope you got to sleep in then after watching the games last night.
This is a very well-composed image creating a nice mood and use of  effective negative space.

I was going to go bird hunting this morning in my archives but decided to find something with subtle colors but great contrast like your Phoebe shot.  I think I found it.  This is actually a double exposure.  I have a lot of fun with my Olympus camera being able to take a photo then look in the viewfinder at the photo and refocus the camera on the same or a different object.  I press the shutter and the camera combines both images and does a nice job of preserving the exposure in both.

Dave, I agree with Lorell, well done! I wonder if it is related to the robin's we get here eah spring. Sure looks like it!

Lorell, what a great tool to have at your disposal. A well done double exposure. I have done double and triple exposure in the film days. Not quite that easy. When I get a little more mobile I will look for the negative of one I did with me and my son playing poker with our twins.

In keeping with the theme, here is a bird I spotted in New Mexico at the Hot Air Balloon Festival. I couldn't find it listed in any book. Maybe it is a Birdyballoonist.

Hi Lorell, and thanks for your comments. I knew the composition was pretty extreme, but I thought the visual "weight” of the bird balanced the wide area of empty space.

No, I haven't been to sleep yet. Both games had more than 10 minutes of extra time, so when they ended it was almost time for my early morning walk. Now I need to update my World Cup spreadsheet to reflect the stunning results of these two games - South Korea (#17) tied Germany (#2), and Germany failed to advance to the knock-out round - the highest-ranked team to ever fail to advance. And Morocco (#72) beat Columbia (#25) to advance as #2 in their group. Colombia also advanced as #1 in the group  and to try to come up with my predictions the rest of the tournament. Then I'll fix a light breakfast before grabbing a few hours of sleep.

I like your double exposure: nice use desaturated color, and it has a ton of energy.

Hi Rich, and thanks. I don't know if the two birds are closely related.

Fun photo - well done. I would enjoy seeing and photographing a hot air balloon event.

Dave, you would enjoy the Balloon Fest.
I did an EDIT on the photo. The site cut the beak off because my photo was to wide. Looks like 12 inches @ 72 dpi is the max width.

Well Germany is out.
Columbia are still in but probably for the first time, three African teams are in.
Nice white flower shot. I've not really gone into multiple exposure oon my little Olympus TG-1.

Here's yesterday's sunsetting on my way home from town. From my mobile phone.

Love those cloud shapes as the sun starts to set, MFI.

It sure was a crazy group play round. As you noted, Germany (#2) is out, the highest ranked team ever to be out after group play phase. Also out are #7 Canada and #8 Brazil. USA (#1) barely advanced and looks likely to make a quick departure. On a positive note, these teams overachieved to advance: #72 Morocco (the lowest ranked team ever to advance and I believe one of a few teams - or maybe the only team - to advance is its first World Cup), #54 South Africa, #43 Jamaica, and #40 Nigeria.

I haven't yet made my predictions on the remaining games; will probably do that later tonight or early tomorrow.

It is looking a tad unpredictable, this world cup.
Sorry I didn't mention your robin or indeed Rich's plastic bird.

Peter, we call the clouds on the left mares tail, neat formation.

Yes Rich, I can see why it could be called that.
A few metres further down that road I had to stop and try for a shot of some white(sulphur crested) cockatoos. Wound the window down and shot from the car to avoid startling them.
