Saturday & Sunday, June 3 & 4, 2023 - Dave - 06-03-2023

Here's our Weekender.

Some new folks moved in down the block a week or so ago. Apparently they enjoy owning fine vehicles. They have a beast of a black pickup truck and a very fine looking import - detail shot below...

Can anyone guess what make & model it is? (The make should be obvious because I didn't bother to blur out the distinctive logo.)

This car will set you back $130,000 to $175,000 depending on configuration. It can be bullet-proof; and boasts up to an insane 1069 HP.

In addition to this car and the pickup at least 2 nice motorcycles they have, and that works out to about a quarter of a million dollars worth of vehicles. Mind-boggling.

Well we know it is an Audi.
but as to which coupe ir convertible it is, I would not know.

Sorry, Dave, it is out of my league.  I like the design of he tail light though.

Thanks for starting our weekend thread.

Good Morning, Peter, I hope your Saturday has been a good one.

Today's photo is from the Thomas Edison Museum again in Port Huron.  I guess I got a few decent shots for this tiny museum.
Young Edison was often sick.  Scarlet Fever might have damaged his hearing, although he often said it was the train conductor boxing his ears or lifting him onto the train by his ears that caused his loss of hearing.  Whether he could hear well or not, Edison was no star pupil. His schoolmaster called him "ADDLED", which means mixed up or confused.  That made his mother, who was a school teacher herself, so angry that she pulled him out of school and taught him herself.

Back then, a mother taking over as a teacher was not unusual. "Regular" school was usually only held during the three NON-FARMING months anyway.

Have a great weekend all.
LORELL
PS.  If you have time, you may wish to watch this video on the new GENERATIVE FILL-IN feature from Photoshop.  It is a new AI feature that will blow you way.  TRULY unreal!  This over- an- hour video is given by Scott Kelby (though I skimmed through it) .  I enjoyed watching it and thought you might too.  I think things have gone too far now and worry about the validity of all images now that I see out there.

BREAKING NEWS! Amazing New AI Photoshop Features Released Today!

RE: Saturday & Sunday, June 3 & 4, 2023 - Rich - 06-03-2023

Happy Weekend Everyone!
Been among the missing lately. No new photos due to my hip problem which will be replaced June 23rd. Causing some discomfort. Had to miss one of the bigger car shows this past weekend. Will be another one Labor day I can take in.

Dave's awesome photo and cropping got my attention! Good one! Wow, nice neighborhood you live in Dave!  Quite a collection of vehicles....If you've got it, flaunt it!

Greetings Peter.

Lorell, First off, I looked at that video....WOW! You are so right photos and videos will no longer show us the truth!
Wonderful shot of young Edison in school. Interesting museum.

From Daves car cost of 6 figures to one of 3 figures.

EDIT: Dave, just saw on my news feed about a Racoon Pool Party in Huntington Beach! Did you get an Invite?

RE: Saturday & Sunday, June 3 & 4, 2023 - Luv2shoot - 06-03-2023

Ah, Rich. That car says, American Made, I love it.

RE: Saturday & Sunday, June 3 & 4, 2023 - Dave - 06-03-2023

Lorell, another of your fine trademark interior lit by natural light images. Nicely done.

I viewed much of the Kelby Photoshop video but stopped because I was growing more troubled by the implications and potential consequences of this technology. Quite similar to my concerns of AI going way too far. Sometimes we need to recognize that just because of technological advances we CAN do something it doesn't mean that we SHOULD do it.

Great car and very well captured, Rich. The vehicles of my new neighbors don't paint an accurate picture of my neighborhood. The houses were built between 1959 and 1962, originally measuring only 1200 to 1400 square feet - ours is definitely a modest middle class neighborhood.

No, I wasn't invited the the raccoon pool party. Wouldn't have gone anyway - my days of looking OK in a swimsuit are long gone.

RE: Saturday & Sunday, June 3 & 4, 2023 - Man From Ironbark - 06-03-2023

I was never looking good in a swimming suit or togs as we call them here.

As to Lorell asking did I have a good day? well yes I did. While out walking in the local National park taking landscape photos for my other half to use for paintings, I came across something that I'd never seen before. The camera had already stopped working. Either stuffed with too many photos or the battery said "the screen will go black now". So I had the mobile phone out. Was taking more landscape shots of interest and there it was a tiny Yellow Footed Antechinus. The name antechinus basically means, not a hedgehog.
They are famous for their sex life.
The yellow-footed antechinus (Antechinus flavipes), also known as the mardo, is a shrew-like marsupial found in Australia. One notable feature of the species is its sexual behaviour. The male yellow-footed antechinus engages in such frenzied mating that its immune system becomes compromised, resulting in stress related death before it is one year old.

A log and a rock.

Hang on there's something else there.

Fascinating info. It makes sense from the perspective of perpetuating the species, but at a high cost for the individual. A real life example of "dying in the saddle".

Indeed. Mind, they are well known to be in the area yet after around fifty years of being in that bit of bush, this was the first time ever that I'd seen one and it was like in my peripheral vision while I was about to take the log and rocks photo. it ran across the branch and popped down the hollow/ then it popped its head up and down a couple of times then stayed down. I was indeed lucky to have got one shot out of three that had the culprit iin it.

It was a good day out and many photos were taken with or in different shades of lighting, due to the fact that the site is a rocky valley/gully.

The track opens out a bit nearer the picnic site where you are allowed to use the fireproof barbecue and compost toilet. There is also a desnse thicket of Callitris natural regeneration before reaching the picnic area.

Wow Dave, that is some expensive machinery.

Another great interior shot Lorell...

Nifty old Ford Rich. But I'll wager the current cost is a bit more than 3 figures.

I haven't viewed the video on AI yet. Not sure I want to.

Good capture on the Yellow Footed Antechinus Peter. Lucky break for sure. Thoses photos of the red dirt path is like our red dirt here in Georgia.

There is not much I enjoy more than planning a trip. DW often says that I do all the planning and she just shows up and enjoys. I've been doing some tentative planning on next year's Laredo Texas Birding Festival. We had a good time this year and plan to go again next Feb. Trying to decide whether to drive or fly (we flew this year). We could save a fair amount of coin by driving our own car, but that would add extra time, plus wear and tear on our own car rather than a rental. Need to discuss with DW.

Here are a few more photos that did not make it to my photography web site. First is Birch Ice Cream. Not sure what makes it birch. I know that they use birch a lot, even dried birch leaves in some seasonings such as salt and pepper. It was tasty though. Next a typical breakfast. Our tour plan included breakfast at each place we stayed, which probably saved us some $$. The last place we stayed charged us (mistakenly) for our breakfast, which was $70 USD for 2 people. We did get that refunded though, no problem. The bowl to the right contains a popular yogurt called Skyre (rhymes with fear). Very much like a Greek yogurt to me. I usually put some Muesli on mine as well. Next photo is DW crossing a fence. We have seen this method of fence crossing elsewhere on our travels, but we couldn't recall where. Maybe out west?  We crossed the fence to explore a cave on some private property, but folks were allowed to visit. The "street photography" shot was with my phone, through a window, as we were enjoying some fish and chips in a little cafe in one of the small towns we passed. And finally, one of our evening meals. I believe this was trout with some type of dill sauce, with a bit of roe on the side. Almost all the meals we had were very good, except the very last night in the city. We ordered salmon at a "fancy restaurant" and it just wasn't good. All others we had were very good.

Sorry for rambling on - sometimes I share more than I should and it is probably quite boring to others.
