Weekender, January 28 & 29, 2023 - Luv2shoot - 01-28-2023 Good morning all, Had a chance to take some photographs yesterday at the park. It was a bit chilly but nothing like clean crisp air after a good washing of snow to clear the head. Have a good weekend. See you all later, LORELL RE: Weekender, January 28 & 29, 2023 - Man From Ironbark - 01-28-2023 In Australia, we get way more snow than Switzerland. If you say that to most Australians, their first response would be, How? I mean, they know we do get snow because we do have a ski season. What they aren't thinking about is that if you drop Switzerland on a map of Australia, it is barely a single postage stamp on a parcel size envelope. The big thing is even of those who go skiing in Australia, 99.9% of them would never see a scene like the one depicted above. Though very similar scenes do actually exist, you'd maybe not want to do downhill skiing there. RE: Weekender, January 28 & 29, 2023 - Rich - 01-28-2023 Good Morning! Lorell, Looks like you received some snow and by your description, chilly! More chilly air on the way. Below zero F for us at night for the next several days. Excellent capture with the "S" curve of the path showing the way! The figures really add to the interest of the scene. Peter, Your first statement got my attention and then your explanation makes sense. Yes, a few trees to dodge here. Maybe cross country skiing would work. I'll stick with the white today but not snow. We got another couple of inches last night, now over 2 feet on the ground. All I see from my computer room window is snow! Here is a seaside house on Gulf Shore, Alabama on a bank of sand. I feel warmer already! RE: Weekender, January 28 & 29, 2023 - Dreamin - 01-28-2023 Looks like a nice walk, Lorell....don't slip!! Interesting facts, Peter.....funny how you tricked abot more snow than Switzerland....ha ha ha..... Rich, that could pass for snow!! At first glance I thought it was!! Did you vacation in the area some time? Looks like a nice place to be!! Okay, I decided to cook today.....and as I was prepping the ingredients, decided to get the camera out...I guess I could have put this in the food section (but not everyone goes in there to look) or I could have put it in the WHATIZIT section, and let you guess what I'm making......any guesses out there? I was dissapointed when I looked at the image....it's a tad too grainy to blow up....need to figure out how to take low light photos with less grain......it's been a while and I have forgotten so much about photography ..... don't use it, you lose it..... RE: Weekender, January 28 & 29, 2023 - Rich - 01-28-2023 Natalie, Yes I have spent a week there a few times in February. Two of my High School friends rent condos for a couple of months and ask me to come and spend a week with them. I would guess you're making beef stew but there are a couple of ingrediants I don't use in stew. Looks wonderful! My Son in law gave me a couple of 2 inch ribeye steaks when I was out ther for Christmas. Have one thawing for tonight. RE: Weekender, January 28 & 29, 2023 - Dave - 01-28-2023 Nice photo, Lorell. I remember many scenes like that from my youth in Michigan, many on fall deer hunting outings with my parents and brothers. MFI, it's interesting what one can do with statistics. American baseball is rife with improbable statistics, such as the one when a player made 4 errors on one play. Rich, that's an exquisite photo. Well spotted and executed. WOW Natalie, that's a beauty. Worthy of the cover of an upscale cookbook. Guesses? Well, my first thought was a stew or chili, but the greens a lower right don't really fit with either. So my second guess would be tacos or burritos or fajitas. Probably all of these are incorrect. From this morning's early walk, some succulent blades in an odd light that rendered the blades as brown instead of the actual gray-green. But since that made for a unified color scheme, I processed it anyway... RE: Weekender, January 28 & 29, 2023 - Dreamin - 01-28-2023 Thanks for the comments.....I made Borscht....beef, beet and cabbage soup with potatoes, celery and carrots and seasoned with bay leaf, salt and pepper, garlic, onions.....and tomato paste with some fresh tomatoes. my mom's recipe....Doesn't taste at all like stew....and I tried to mix up her bread recipe that she always baked to eat with borscht but I ran out of flour and had to go get more and now not sure how it's going to work out. we shall see.... Dave that is one nice image of your succulents. Really like this one for the vertical lines and notched edges...Well done. RE: Weekender, January 28 & 29, 2023 - Dave - 01-29-2023 Thanks Natalie. Another from yesterday's early morning walk, this one of Alyssium against a wide succulent leaf in my front yard... My NFL predictions for today's games: San Francisco at Philadelphia (PHI favored by just 2.5 points). SF has a great defense; PHI QB Jalen Hurts is back for his second game after missing several games due to injury, and if he is 100% healthy will be a threat with his excellent running and passing. SF will run the ball well against PHI defense, and this will eventually make passing easier for the SF rookie QB. The game may come down to two things: 1) which team's QB has a better game; and 2) which team's defense does a better job of shutting down the opposing team's offensive strengths. I predict SF to win by at least 7 points; maybe 21-14. Cincinnati at Kansas City (KC favored by just 1.5 points). CIN has beaten KC the last three meetings. BUT KC is notoriously strong at home. Neither team will run well, so that means QB play will be key. And KC QB Mahomes is injured; he will play but nowhere near at 100% - maybe as low as 50%. If Mahomes was 100% healthy, KC would have the edge. But with him injured, IMO CIN has the edge. I expect CIN defense to get 1 or 2 interceptions and recover 1 KC fumble. Depending on how much magic the injured Mahomes can perform, it could be close, but I think CIN will win by 6 to 14 points - maybe 34-24. RE: Weekender, January 28 & 29, 2023 - Dreamin - 01-29-2023 Another really great shot, Dave! This one is even better. Great capture of the shadows and the curled tip of the leaf is the icing on the cake. Very nice! RE: Weekender, January 28 & 29, 2023 - Rich - 01-29-2023 Thanks Dave! Lots of interest on the succulent! I agree with Natalie and the lighting adds interest too! The second one with the shadows and the Alyssum, which I have never seen, really add interest! Natalie, Should have figured Borscht with the beets there! |
