Sat/Sun Oct 15/16 2022 - Don - 10-15-2022

Good morning all and welcome to the weekend! Looks to be another nice day here today albeit starting out a bit chilly at 50F right now. Went on a nice little bike ride through some twisties, recorded on my GoPro, but when I was removing the little micro SD card I dropped it and for the life of me I cannot find it. Really frustrating.

So DW and I bit the bullet yesterday and I booked a trip to Iceland for next May. That has been a big item on the bucket list for quite some time so we figured we should do it while we can still travel. We were going to just do it all on our own but I found an agency that has a "drive yourself" tour, but they take care of the rental car and all accommodations. We probably could have save a bit of $$ doing it on our own but I think it will be nice to just land in Iceland, have transportation waiting to take us to the hotel, get the rental car next day, and provide all kinds of maps and recommendations of things to see. Most of yesterday afternoon was spent making travel arrangements but for now we are all set. Still 7 months away but something to look forward to.

Big football day today - all 3 teams that we follow play at 3:30 so it might be difficult to follow all 3. The best game for us will be the Alabama - Tennessee game. I think TN has a good shot are winning today. But in the end it's only a game...

Good morning, Don, and so excited to hear about your ICELAND ADVENTURE.  You are right to do it now and not wait.  Enjoy it while you can as they say. And boy, something to look forward to really makes a difference.  I bet you already started thinking about which cameras and which lenses you will pack

Looking forward to a nice lunch with a BIL and SIL .  Have not seen the one for YEARS!  We got a pretty fall day, the golden trees look beautiful in the sunshine against the blue skies.  A bit of a breeze though.

Have a good start to your weekend all.
I will leave you with this before I run off to get ready.

Title:  WILL WORK FOR FOOD

RE: Sat/Sun Oct 15/16 2022 - Dave - 10-15-2022

Thanks for starting the Daily, Don.

Your Iceland trip sounds fantastic - I am so envious.

I agree with you that Tennessee has a good chance of upsetting Alabama.

Lorell, I really like that photo. Lines and shapes, composition. values and colors - it's all good. It looks like you added some subtle texture, making it even better. And I love your title

I decided it's way past time for me to start using my camera more. This morning's walk was under our usual (for this time of year) marine layer of clouds, providing a nice diffuse light. It was still humid after having rained lightly sometime earlier. Perfect conditions for flower photography, but there weren't many blossoms to be found on my walk. I did manage this one, which I'm calling "A Whiter Shade of Pale" after the song by Procul Harum, released in May 1967...

Don, I can’t wait to see the photos you bring back from Iceland! How cool will that be!
I hope you find your camera card. I hate when that happens! They FLY out of the fuji cameras if you’re not careful. Like an ejector button.

Awww, Lorell! That’s a nice photo. Amish? The peely paint building in the background makes for a timeless frame! I like it!
I hope you have a good time with your in laws!
I have I laws I haven’t even met in person yet!
(maybe that’s a good thing)
LOL

Hi Dave! Good to see you!
“Whiter Shade of Pale”: great song and an apt title for your beautiful rose capture.
Nice composition.
Nothing new from my camera….maybe tomorrow.

RE: Sat/Sun Oct 15/16 2022 - Luv2shoot - 10-15-2022

Dave that rise is lily white but I love the soft lighting and wide format. Gosh that is a pretty rose and the dew water droplets add nice texture.

Yes, There are some photos that I feel benefit from an extreme sprinkle of grunge, like this one. Good eye, Dave.

I am happy about our current challenge, it has got me thinking about creating new and different settings for my subject, Emma. Michael’s challenge is forcing me to think outside the box and use some of my learned techniques and try new ones too. If it weren’t for this, the camera would be sitting in my bag.

You should join us, DAVE, especially since you do not have to leave the house if you don’t want to.

Patty, hey there. Definitely Amish.

RE: Sat/Sun Oct 15/16 2022 - Dave - 10-16-2022

Hi damar. Like you, I suspected Lorell's "Will Work for Food" was from the Amish community. Thanks for commenting on my white rose image.

Lorell, thank you too. About the current challenge: 1) I still haven't found a suitable object; 2) I'm not very good at setting up shots - I think I'm better at spotting things to photograph as I wander around.

Here's another floral from yesterday's walk in the misty morning; it was taken just a few paces away from the white rose...

I admit that I pushed the color intensity pretty far - it may not read as realistic, but I like the look.

RE: Sat/Sun Oct 15/16 2022 - Rich - 10-16-2022

Greetings all!
Don, hope you find that card, would be an interesting view.
I have friends that are in Iceland right now, probably on their way back by now. The photos they sent back showed a beautiful land. You will enjoy!

Lorell, hope you enjoyed your lunch!
Love the title. That horse sure has a lot of rigging on. He/she looks pretty well fed though!

Dave, a beautiful rose, well captured. The dew drops add interest and the black BG really makes it pop!
Your lily ( I think) looks realistic to me. You have a knack for bringing out the best in the floral category!

Hi Patty!

Here is a 55 Studebaker about the same color as Daves Lily.

RE: Sat/Sun Oct 15/16 2022 - Dreamin - 10-16-2022

Hi, Don. Only 55 here this am......brrr....supposed to get frost next week. Where did FALL weather go? Gonna jump right into winter, I'm afraid.....Sorry you dropped your SD card...it's so small ....I have trouble with regular SD cards...hope you find it.....I am looking forward already to those Iceland shots....
Lorell, have fun at lunch! Your work horse looks like he is enjoying the sunshine.....Sometimes grunge works, and I agree, this is one of those times!! Love the shed, too!! Nice title.
Dave, ah....enjoying looking at your rose......wonderful backdrop, perspective! The drops of water add so much! Nice work! Love the title, too. I like your orange lily even better..... especially the details.....the sharp water drops along the top of it, the fine veins on the petal on the lower right....the dapple background, nice framing. It has it all....
Hi, Patty!! Nothing new from me, either, today.
Rich, that is a really really nice Studebaker.....LOVE the colors! Todays colors have gotten boring!! Even the car ahead is something we won't see in modern cars....Do you think the people restoring the cars just got wild or did cars really have those colors back then?
Well.....it's time to make the donuts. LOL! My daughter wants my help moving some sheep....to a greener pasture!! Later guys!

RE: Sat/Sun Oct 15/16 2022 - Don - 10-16-2022

Good afternoon all - Lorell, that building has character. I like it, and the horse just adds to it. Good title too.

Fantastic photo Dave - you really are a master at photographing flowers! I remember Whiter Shade of Pale, for sure. And your rose was followed by an equally good shot. The backgrounds on both really work well.

I love the Studebaker Rich. I remember us having a blue Studebaker back in the day. I was probably in the 6th or 7th grade so quite some time ago. Would love to see under the hood to see what kind of engine it has.

Well Natalie, it is already 80 F here but cooler weather is on the way. 60 tonight but 48 tomorrow might followed by a few nights in the 30's. I have requested that the shop that has our trailer go ahead and winterize it because it is supposed to reach freezing temps by Wed.

I've looked all over for my memory card but to no avail. I have ordered a couple more to replace it though.

It will be several months before you see any Iceland photos but maybe I will have some to share from the upcoming Smoky Mountain trip and later from the birding festival in Laredo, Tx.

The boys like cooler weather. They are dressed for winter.
