Monday 27 June 2022 - damar - 06-27-2022

Here we are! Another Monday! This month is just flying!
I hope everyone had a great weekend.
I'll be back with a photo in a few.....

* * * * * * *

I took this yesterday in a nice town the next county over.
I shot in Tri-X sim (Fuji XT-20)
The light through the tree canopy gave a natural vignette effect.

In downtown, this was the site of a bank that was built around 1890.
In 1993 there was a "downburst" which destroyed the building but left the
vault/safe. Since the missing building  left a gap in the storefronts, the city made what they call a "pocket park"
here. They put a bistro style table and chairs and a historic plaque.
I also shot this in B&W Tri-X and it looks good too.

RE: Monday 27 June 2022 - Don - 06-27-2022

Good morning Patty (and any who might follow). Seems light turn out so far today.

Not much going on this week for us, except for tomorrow. I have a physical, DW has a lab in preparation for her physical, and DS has a CT scan as a follow up to his cancer surgery. The last one was clear so hopefully this one will be as well. This is the 3rd week in a row I have had some "medical" stuff to take care of. Next week it is the dermatologist, then I should be done for quite a while.

Still working on my new CD. Did some recording this morning and started working on the cover art as well. I've started it a few times, worked on it a while, then stopped. I'd really like to finish it this time. Possible cover. The back cover is actually more work because of listing all the songs and any other text that you might want to put on it. I'll probably just have the songs listed. I thought about converting the front image to a B&W and using that for the back, but haven't decided yet. Still time. Smile

Two winners, damar!

Nice image for the cover art, Don.

Extreme close-up of the edge of a rose petal; kind of an abstract in reds...

Wishing everyone a good week.

Thats a dramatic CD cover photo, Don! Where was that taken?
I hope all your family's medical stuff is good reports.

We just had a downpour for about 20 minutes...with thunder.
We needed it.
I have a rotisserie (electric accessory) for my Weber gas grill and today I skewered a rack of baby back ribs; haven't done this before.
So far so good. We cook with both charcoal and gas but the rotisserie only works on the gas grill.
The skewing makes the rack serpentine, but I will try to remember to take a photo anyway.

Hi Dave! Thanks!
Well that is a lovely red leading edge! It would make a nice background banner.
Or the top of a minimalists greeting card or poster.
Very nice!

DH's 100 year old uncle passed last night. He was a WW2 Flying Ace. B-24 Bomber Pilot.
He flew 17 (air combat) Missions; European Theater.
After that, he was sent to Sioux Falls, SD where he was assigned a B-29 and sent to Roswell, NM for atomic bomb flight training. He liked the luxurious B-29...it was heated and had facilities (unlike the B-24).
He told stories of nearly freezing to death in the B-24s. He declined the offer to join that (atomic) mission.
Fair skies, ace.

Patty, your Private Parking Bike shot was a great find. Well shot. The natural vignette was a bonus! I really like your vault shot. Interesting that they decided to leave it in place! Creative on someone's part! We have a small town about 5 miles away that is missing about 4 buildings. The whole downtown is only 2 blocks....so the town planted pretty flowering shrubs and trees and put in some benches. Looks great. Not sure many actually use the benches, but it does look great!!
Patty, so sorry about your DH's uncle. He had a long life....and a rich, full one at that. Really a hero.....Grateful for his service......
Don, good for you, taking care of your health. Speaking of which, I need to find a good dermatologist, the one recommended to me is an hours drive. UGH. What a great idea for an album cover....Does the title refer to one of your recordings?
Dave, abstracts are always fun! Great reds!

Didn't do much today. I picked some cukes, squash, string beans and blueberries. They are coming fast and furious and looks like I'll be eating vegetarian for a while so nothing goes to waste. I freeze blueberries for winter. Might have to can some string beans later as I see so many getting ready to fill out! Getting ready to thunder and lightning here, must have come up from Patty's storm!! We do get a lot from your direction! LOL!

Here is my string bean arbor, and some of my harvest today.

Thank you Natalie,
I love how towns and cities are working to preserve and improve their down town areas.
I would think the little benches and tables make great lunch and break spots for people working in the local businesses.
Your bean arbor is REALLY cool! Looks great in front of the “tiny house”!
You got your garden in early! What a haul already.
Your zucchini look beautiful.
Nicely framed photos too.
 Edit:
Last surviving WW1 veterans..I mistakenly thought the last usa one was early 1980s.

Getting older is really kind of a weird experience, isn’t it?

I too love the bean arbor.

RE: Monday 27 June 2022 - Don - 06-27-2022

Good evening all. Good activity today!

Dave, you are truly a master of the blossom. Yes, almost abstract looking.

Interesting article about downbursts Patty. I have seen videos of them, pretty dangerous stuff. And to think it could destroy a brick building - wow.

Sorry to hear about DH's uncle. Think of all the things he had seen in his life. No rain here today, lots of dark clouds but no rain. We need it too. That photo was taken last year near the Tetons. We really enjoyed that area.

Natalie, yes, I have a song on the CD called The Rain Comes Down. I wrote it at one of the Kerrville Music Festivals after several days of absolutely horrible weather, mud everywhere. Lots of folks did leave after a few days. A lot of my songs have a recurring theme - Rain, Wine and/or Women. Lots of veggies there. DW has some herbs planted, we have a couple of pepper plants, and the 2 tomato plants. That's about it for us.

RE: Monday 27 June 2022 - damar - 06-28-2022

Thanks, Don.
We got 0.6" yesterday in a short period of time. But as far as annual rainfall, we are about 3" behind.
I plan on planting some herbs next season (basil and lemon balm for starters)
I need to research companion planting so I can keep tomato hornworms from visiting my tomatoes.
Well, I'll go start the Tuesday daily since I'm already here!
See ya there!
