Monday, June 6, 2022 - dewarp - 06-06-2022 Morning FFs Not really photography, but I just came across this explanation of the workings of a mechanical watch on a photography site. Seeing as how Peter MFI is much into clocks/watches I thought I would mention it here. See https://ciechanow.ski/mechanical-watch/ Amazing piece of work! regards - Peter D RE: Monday, June 6, 2022 - Man From Ironbark - 06-06-2022 G'day, PeterD. They are nifty animations. Yes, I had seen it before. A very good piece of work.
RE: Monday, June 6, 2022 - Dreamin - 06-06-2022 What blows my mind is that somebody figured all this out in the first place. Good grief! Genius at work. And we took it all for granted!! Very interestng. Thanks for sharing!! RE: Monday, June 6, 2022 - Dave - 06-06-2022 Thanks for the fascinating link, Peter. The early watchmakers were amazing. First, simply to have figured all this out was an incredible feat. Then to have actually created and assembled the often tiny parts given the limited technology of the times seems to have been impossible. Moving from the ingenuity of man to nature's awe-inspiring ability to create functional, and adaptable living things, here is a shot of some of the developing berries my wife is tending. A lot of clever design (employing sophisticated mathematical principles) here to arrive at, for example, the most efficient arrangement of structures (consider how these small berries are arranged - it looks to me that the design allows the berries to be as densely-packed as possible while simultaneously leaving enough space for them to grow to their optimal size. And as a bonus, they are beautiful. RE: Monday, June 6, 2022 - Luv2shoot - 06-06-2022 Good morning Peters, Natalie and Dave. I have to run to the dentist. Had a toothache all weekend. Wish me luck. No time to view the video but will look forward to when I get back. Maybe my Zebra would like to munch on those delicious-looking berries, Dave. By the way, which crop do you like better, #1, #2 or would you like to see more or less of the zebras (#3, not shown)? RE: Monday, June 6, 2022 - Dave - 06-06-2022 Excellent photo, Lorell. Which crop do I prefer? Of the two that you posted, I go with #1 because it concentrates on the zebra's face. IMO #2 has too much emphasis of the zebra's less interesting back end. But I'm thinking that your idea of a #3 might be even better: I see a square crop of #2 that positions the zebra's head along or near the left "rule of thirds" vertical as an option worth considering. RE: Monday, June 6, 2022 - Michael - 06-06-2022 One, square crop, increase contrast and vignette a bit. With all the striping follow where the eye leads. Which, since I haven't played with it, I believe would put the head almost dead center of a square crop.. I think I would leave it color foe some balance. RE: Monday, June 6, 2022 - Luv2shoot - 06-07-2022 Thank you both for the good suggestions. The fact that you came up with alternate ideas means that MY crop doesn’t quite work. And I agree, I jumpstart couldn’t get it right. RE: Monday, June 6, 2022 - Dreamin - 06-08-2022 Dave, wonderful blueberries! My daughter's are starting to ripen. One of the bushes is loaded, I mean, LOADED! I'll share in Wed. post.... Lorell, I like the first one....the second has me distracted by the butt..... But I love your shots of the stripes!! Aren't they amazing animals?
RE: Monday, June 6, 2022 - Man From Ironbark - 06-08-2022 I'd have to grow blueberries in a cage. The birds around here would not let me get any otherwise. |
